Chateau Rabaud-Promis "Promesse" 2012 ~ Sauternes, France
This is great……and here’s why!A dessert wine from a Premier Cru Château in the world-famous Sauternes appellation in France.
Produced by Château Rabaud-Promis - a Premier Cru Classé (“First Growth”) Chateau in the original Bordeaux Wine Official Classification of 1855. The history of the Rabaud estate goes back to 1660 when it was owned by the Ginestet family who now own the even more famous Château Margaux.
The wine is made from 80% Sémillon and 20% Sauvignon, and has a lovely rich palate of pineapple and stone fruit with excellent freshness.
Sauternes lies on the west bank of the Garonne river in Bordeaux, and produces some of France's greatest - and most famous - sweet wines. Sémillon grows well here, and - given it's susceptibility to botrytis - is the favoured grape for such dessert wines. Botrytis, also called Noble Rot, causes the grapes to become partially raisined, resulting in concentrated and distinctively flavored wines.
Like most dessert wines it is served in a 375ml bottle.
