92/100 James Suckling
90/100 Wine Enthusiast (2016 vintage)
Gold - Saint Vincent de Macon (2015 vintage)
James Suckling “Medium to full body, bright acidity and a tangy finish. A crowd pleaser.....This is very lifted and perfumed. Flowers, hints of exotic fruit and strawberries. Even watermelon.”
Plonk Wine Club “This old vines Beaujolais bottling comes from the Cru of Brouilly and is just full of finesse. Made of 100% Gamay, this is an intensely floral and expressive wine, showing lilacs and violets on the nose and spiced blueberry and blackberry fruit on the palate. Grown on a combination of volcanic and granitic soils, this shows excellent minerality and acidic verve.”
Drinks International "One of the “Ten Most Admired Wine Brands” in the world."
Wine Advocate “Georges Duboeuf is the #1 selling brand of Beaujolais in the world”
Roger Voss, Wine Enthusiast “Named after the revolutionary war hero Marquis de La Fayette, this wine has firm tannins along with attractive strawberry fruits. Acidity gives freshness to the wine, which has a structure that suggests it will age further.” (2016 vintage)
The Winemaker "This wine is a combination of finesse, elegance and fruit. Aromas of cherry and stone fruits laced with floral notes. Generous on the palate, with round, silky tannins and a pleasant, fruity finish. The grapes come from a plot of 12.4 acres of traditional Gobelet-trellised south-facing vineyards with vines more than 50 years old. Harvesting of this wine is conducted by hand, in whole bunches, and the grapes are destemmed before pressing."
This wine is produced by Les Vins Georges Duboeuf which is one of the largest wine producers in France founded by the late Georges Duboeuf who was affectionately known as 'le roi du Beaujolais' (the king of Beaujolais) or sometimes pape du Beaujolais (Pope of Beaujolais). Les Vins Georges Duboeuf produces a staggering 3 million cases of wine annually. The company is most well-known for its popularization and production of Beaujolais wines. In 2018 Georges’ passed control of his company to his son Franck Duboeuf, who is considered to be one of the key specialists in Beaujolais, its terroir and its wine, and has shifted production to focus more on Beaujolais Nouveau.
Beaujolais is an important wine region in eastern France, immediately to the south of Burgundy, famous for its vibrant, fruity red wines made from Gamay. The widespread plantings of Gamay here make Beaujolais one of the few regions of the world to be so focused on a single grape variety.
The Beaujolais region's rise to prominence began in the 19th Century, and was earned by its youthful, fruity nouveau wines.
