Chateau Pontet Plaisance 2014 is classic St Emilion Grand Cru, certainly a fine wine presenting a brilliant ruby color robe, a perfect balance and harmony between acidity, tannins and alcohol. The wine shows a subtle balance, good finish, beautiful aromatic persistence and interesting ageing potential. Grapes were harvested at its best maturity due the particular 'Indian summer' which occurred specifically during that vintage (very late picking) The days were warm, sunny and dry and the nights were cool. It was everything you could ask for.

Château Grand-Pontet is a Bordeaux wine producer located in Saint-Émilion, situated on the region's famous limestone plateau. Since 1980, the Grand Cru Classé estate has been owned by the Becot family, owners of Château Beau-Sejour Becot and La Gomier in Saint-Émilion, and Joanin Becot in Cotes de Castillon. Château Grand-Pontet produces a single Merlot-dominant Bordeaux blend and a second wine, Dauphin de Grand Pontet.

The estate spans 14 hectares (36 acres) of vines in a single block composed of three soil types: a shallow layer of soil on limestone, clay-limestone and sandy soil with clay-limestone subsoil. The site is planted to 70 percent Merlot, 15 percent Cabernet Franc and 15 percent Cabernet Sauvignon with vines averaging 35 years old.

Bordeaux is made up of many sub-regions that each have their own soil and climate. However, there are two major areas in Bordeaux, the Left Bank and the Right Bank. The names are derived from the location of each area to the left (west) and right (east) of the Gironde Estuary and Garonne River.

Unlike many other regions in France, where wines are made from single grape varieties, Bordeaux blends five major varieties in the production of its reds: Cabernet Sauvignon for structure and tanning, Merlot for softness and fleshy ripe fruit , Cabernet Franc for lightness in body, aromatic finesse and peppery perfume, Malbec for flavor intensity, complexity and tannins, Petit Verdot which is used in small amounts for color adjustment and tannin.
