Teusner Riebke Shiraz 2014 ~ Barossa Valley, South Australia

$33   $39

This is great……and here’s why!

Jeremy Oliver, Australian Wine Annual “A smooth, polished early-drinking shiraz of regional charm and freshness. Vivacious aroms of cassis raspberries and blueberries are backed by a hint of dusty oak and lifted by a whiff of cracked pepper. Its long, brightly lit palate of vibrant berry fruit and chocolate/vanilla oak is gently supported by fine tannin, finishing with soft acids and lingering nuances of blackberry and mocha.”

James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion ~ “From the sixth-generation Riebke growers, deeply coloured and unashamedly full-bodied, gritty tannins standing guard over wild blackberry fruit. A degree of patience is absolutely essential, but will be rewarded thanks to the overall balance of the wine.” (Aug 2015 review)

Gary Walsh, The Wine Front, June 2015 ~  “Lively style that’s not too full on, but packs enough in to keep the traditional Barossa Shiraz drinker on side.”

Huon Hooke “Deep, dark red/purple/black colour. Sooty, charcoal and dark chocolate aromas, the palate is dense and fleshy, quite rich and concentrated, with a touch of opulence. The wine is crisp and lively as well. Nice balance too. Good drinking and has a future.”

Kym Teusner ~ Winemaker ~ "The Riebke tradition continues…rich, abundant flavour and serious drinkability whilst also being easy on the pocket. The wine is jam packed with Barossa Shiraz flavours….plums, black fruits and warm spices. We’ve taken it easy on the oak to allow the fruit to take center stage…as you would when it’s this good. This is a plush, vibrant wine of immense generosity and incredible value."

"2014 marks another great vintage for reds from the Barossa Valley, following on from 2012 and 2013….but with each vintage having its own story. Most of our growers remember well the 2014 vintage….and especially a Valentine’s Day spent lunching long at the winery whilst mother nature, in all her glorious unpredictability, dumped 4 to 6 inches of rain on their vineyards. Whilst plenty may have panicked, the Riebkes…with generations of experience (and a few clarets) under their belts…stayed relaxed, calm in the knowledge that their dry patch of the northern Barossa might welcome a bit of a freshen up before the serious business of harvesting grapes began. And they had good reason to sit back and reach for the bottle of red one more time that day…because I reckon the 2014 vintage has delivered us a cracker Riebke!"

Teusnér's "The Riebke" Shiraz has been praised by both the wine press and wine drinkers in recent years for consistently over-delivering on quality at an unbeatable price. The wine's name is a tip of the hat to the Riebke family, who produce some of the best grapes in the Ebenezer district. Teusner take a lot of fruit from the old Riebke vineyards in north Barossa around Ebenezer, Kalimna and Moppa.

The Barossa Valley is an extremely important wine-producing region within the Barossa zone of South Australia. A prestigious and internationally renowned region, it is not only home to some of the oldest vineyards and wineries in Australia but produces some of its most recognizable and sought-after brands. The region takes its name from the 'Barossa' ranges and the 'Valley' created by the North Para river, which connects the main towns of Nuriootpa, Tanunda and Lyndoch.
