Viré-Clessé is an Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée (AOC) for white wine in the Mâconnais subregion in Burgundy in central France, located in the communes of Clessé, Laizé, Montbellet and Viré. The appellation VIRÉ-CLESSÉ achieved recognition in 1998 and was launched a year later. It is the first appellation Village to be formed from outstanding terroirs within the AOC Mâcon Villages. Viré and Clessé are two communes in southern Bourgogne lying between Tournus and Mâcon. Because the wines of the two villages closely resemble each other in typicity, it was decided to form them into a single appellation, although the terroirs included in it were subjected to a rigorous selection process. Viré and Clessé also produce wines of the appellations Mâcon, Bourgogne and Mâcon Villages. The names Mâcon-Viré and Mâcon-Clessé have been in disuse since 2002. The appellation consists of two hill-slopes running North-South between the valleys of the Bourbonne and the Mouge. The rocks are fossiliferous Bajocien limestones and Jurassic (Oxfordian) strata of marly-limestone. Other soils at the foot of the slopes are clays containing sandstone pebbles known as «chailles».
They are well-drained and East-facing. Also found here are soils containingwhite limestone pebbles typical of the Mâconnais and known as « cray «. It is the best soil for the Chardonnay grape. Altitudes: 200-440 meters.

This domaine is now run by Descombes’s daughter, Nicole Descombes Savoye, who produces this wine for Duboeuf from close to 30 acres with a southeast-facing exposition, the vines ranging in age from 50 to 100 years old. Made with destemmed grapes in a partial carbonic maceration, the wine is all raspberry, meadow flowers and iron-edged tannins. And it’s the tannins that last, detailed in their mineral expression, suiting the wine to long aging."

Wine & Spirits "Descombes was the first grower Georges Duboeuf worked with when he started his firm in 1968. This domaine is now run by Descombes’s daughter, Nicole Descombes Savoye, who produces this wine for Duboeuf from close to 30 acres with a southeast-facing exposition, the vines ranging in age from 50 to 100 years old. Made with destemmed grapes in a partial carbonic maceration, the wine is all raspberry, meadow flowers and iron-edged tannins. And it’s the tannins that last, detailed in their mineral expression, suiting the wine to long aging."

The second largest of the 10 Crus of Beaujolais in Greater Burgundy, Morgon is comprised of six climate all with slightly different styles. Their unifying feature is the decomposed schist soil called roches pourries or “rotted rocks” and locals believe this contributes to the ripe cherry aromas found in all the wines. These are wines meant to age 5–10 years (at least). The young, fleshy palate of peach, apricot, cherry, and plum will develop into a more earthy wine reminiscent of Burgundian Pinot Noir. Of the 10 crus of Beaujolais, this is the closest to Moulin-a-Vent in terms of weight and structure, and it can age nearly as well. It has a firm minerality, thanks chiefly to its granitic soils, and a fruit profile that shades towards orange.

Château des Capitans is owned by the Duboeuf family. Grapes for this wine come from a single, undivided, vineyard. Vines are all over 50 years of age.

One of the oldest producing areas within the ten Beaujolais Cru appellations, Julienas is named after the Roman emperor Julius Caesar, the area has a 2000 year history of grape production. Its varied soil composition of sedimentary alluvial soils near the Saone River and the sandy granite of the sloping vineyards on the Beaujolais hills make for wines can range from light and fruity, to densely concentrated and powerful. The appellation has a continental climate with cool nights and warm days, and an extended ripening season thanks to the long summers providing optimum conditions for growing quality fruit.
