Michael Schachner - "Sweet strawberry and floral aromas with delicious red stone fruit flavours and a touch of smokiness. This is fresh youthful Rioja at an absolutely unbeatable price!"

Winemaker "Deep cherry red in colour on the nose this wine displays aromas of candied fruits, cocoa and oak. Rounded, savoury well balanced and complex on the palate, with great harmony and a long finish."

Winemaker "The grapes are carefully selected and handpicked before embarking on the maceration process. Finally, the wine is aged for 18 months in new American oak barrels before resting quietly in bottles to ensure complete maturity for 18 months."

Castillo de Albai is one of the largest wineries in La Rioja, located next to the famous ancient river bed known for producing some of the region's fines wines. The winery is owned by the Solis family who produces wines in partnership with over 1,000 family-run wineries across 3,500 hectares in La Rioja. The multi-estate approach allows winemakers to access different vineyards and take advantage of the different ripening cycles and grape varieties in the regions to create their award-winning wines.

The World Ranking of Wines and Spirits (WRWS) gave Felix Solis sixth place in the top 100 Best Wineries of the World and second place in the category ‘Best Wineries of Spain’. These accolades add to many already received making Félix Solís Avantis the most awarded winery in the world with 200 medals and awards. The data collected in the WRWS includes medals obtained in 2016 from prestigious competitions as Berliner Wein Trophy, Mundus Vini, Decanter and the International Wine Challenge.

For the creation of the World Ranking of Wines & Spirits, the prestigious association of wine journalists uses data from national and international competitions whose results are public and the score of each winery is established based on the significance of each contest and the importance of the medals awarded.

In 2020 wines produced by the Solís family won 37 medals in the international recognised German wine competition, Mundus Vini including 21 gold and 16 silver awards. Among the awards was 'Best of Show', and 'Best wine red wine from Spain for Food'.

Spain’s most internationally famous wine region, Rioja, located in Northern Spain is renowned for creating top quality wines with exceptional ageing ability. It lies in northern Spain, by the side of the River Ebro from which the region’s name derived. Rioja is best known for berry-scented, barrel-aged red wines made from Tempranillo and Garnacha. The variety of Rioja's soils, together with the combination of modern and traditional growing practices allow winemakers to produce a wide range of wines that exhibit different personalities, always within the framework that their long-established Qualified Denominación de Origen demands from them.

Tempranillo is a red grape variety which forms the backbone of some of the finest wines from Spain and Portugal. Almost every red wine from Rioja and Ribera del Duero has Tempranillo at its core, and in Portugal, the variety is widely used in the Douro Valley.
