The Real Review "A very good NV.....It's rich and quite full-bodied....A Light, bright yellow colour and a rich, nougat and hazelnut aroma, suggesting a touch of barrel - but subtle. The palate is quite full, dry and straw-like in its flavour, with a firm finish accompanied by some phenolic grip."
Gilbert & Gaillard "..A stylish Brut Champagne for an elaborate aperitif....Light gold with fine bubbles. The nose is appealing with clean expression intermixing raspberry and stone fruit notes. The palate is fresh yet lush with savoury fruit-driven persistence. "
Wine Enthusiast "In the delicate, elegant style that is the Deutz house hallmark, this Champagne is beautifully understated, with its balance and touches of toast in harmony."
Wine Enthusiast "The elegance of this nonvintage cuvée sums up the style of the house, balancing acidity with a dosage that is just right. The white fruits and tangy edge are refreshing and intense."
Wine Spectator "Apple blossom and graphite aromas lace flavors of Asian pear, blanched almond and lemon curd in this sleek Champagne. Fresh and linear, with a fine, creamy mousse."
Decanter "Distinctively Deutz in style with vinosity and verve, this is fresh, elegant and round with a precocious ripeness and good depth. The base is largely the 2015 vintage (50%) with additions from 2013 and 2014 reserve wines. As always, it's an equal blend of Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier and Chardonnay, sourced from premier cru and grand cru vineyards from the Marne area."
Tom Cannavan "There is 35% of reserve wines in this cuvée, and a dosage of 9g/l. Quite a developed yeastiness, with lots of russet apple, nutty and juiciness, but then white flower and nettle. Very delicate, a gentle mousse, with lovely orangey acidity and fruit freshness, very crisp and tapering. Whilst dry, not austere."
Vinum Wine Magazine (translated) "the ideal sparkling wine for every occasion."
Falstaff (translated) "Juicy, elegant, fine structure, mineral, slightly restrained white fruit..Light yellow-green, silver reflections, lively mousseux. A bit of peach, delicate white tropical fruit, a hint of biscuit, citrus nuances. ."
The Deutz style - one of elegance, finesse yet with a distinct vinosity. Founded in 1883 within the Champagne town of Ay, Deutz is located in prime Pinot Noir terroir, allowing Deutz to make exquisite and exceptional champagne. Deutz champagnes are made using a traditional winemaking process. Oak is entirely eschewed here to emphasise purity and freshness. The base wines are fermented at low temperatures to preserve aromatics and all the wines go through malolactic fermentation. The Brut Classic NV, at one end of the spectrum, spends three years on its lees, while the cuvée William Deutz spends up to 10 years on its lees.
Champagne is the most iconic sparkling wine in the world, produced in the region of Champagne in France. Synonymous with celebration, champagne is typically produced from a few specific varieties of grapes: pinot noir, chardonnay, and pinot meunier. With effervescent flavors of citrus, almond, and apple, champagne comes in varying levels of sweetness and has a moderate amount of alcohol. The most treasured Champagnes age for a minimum of 3 years.
The Champagne region is located 140 kilometres from Paris, France. While the vines in this region have been producing wine since the Roman era, it is only in the past couple of hundred years that winemakers began producing Champagne using méthode champenoise - the complex method that produces the style of Champagne the world knows and loves today. Another important component of the production of champagne is the chalk and limestone soils which dominate the Champagne region. Vines grown in these conditions result in wines that are high in acidity - a key component to making good sparkling wine. Champagne's northerly location - about as north as grapes can ripen - also allow for higher acidity and lower alcohol levels which are also very important for producing quality sparkling wine.
