Kirrihill Wines is dedicated to producing high-quality wines that reflect the unique terroir of the Clare Valley. The winery employs sustainable practices and meticulous vineyard management to ensure each varietal captures the essence of this premium wine region. The Riesling grapes for The Settler were sourced from the Watervale sub-region, renowned for producing some of the best Riesling in Australia. The grapes were picked in the cool, early morning from two of our finest vineyards in Watervale. The 2022 vintage benefited from ideal weather conditions, allowing for grapes to develop bright acidity and intense flavors.

The fruit underwent a cool fermentation process to preserve its fresh character. Minimal intervention during winemaking ensures the purity of expression, resulting in a vibrant and lively Riesling that showcases the unique characteristics of Watervale.

Region Description: Clare Valley is the northernmost wine region within the Mount Lofty Ranges of South Australia, located 130km north of the state capital, Adelaide. Riesling reigns supreme here. The drier styles are recognized as some of the best in the world. In fact, the very best examples are considered to provide benchmarks of quality. The wines are particularly famous for their depth of classic Riesling flavors – of exotic citrus, lime and orange blossoms, crunchy apples with a healthy dose of minerals, and crisp natural acidity. The top wines can also be cellared for 20 or more years. Clare Valley's red wines based on Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon are also highly regarded. Some of these wines vie with the best produced anywhere in Australia.

Riesling is a light-skinned, aromatic grape of German origin which is – if the majority of top wine critics are to be believed – the world's finest white wine grape variety. The Riesling vine holds a very different place in the wine world to such great grapes as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot or Chardonnay. While these immensely popular varieties have conquered every corner of the winegrowing world, Riesling is conspicuously absent from the core wine regions of France, Spain and Italy. Riesling's home is the regions that trace the middle Rhine and the lower Mosel, two of Europe's great wine rivers.
