Giant Steps Yarra Valley Pinot Noir 2019 ~ Yarra Valley, Australia
94/100 Steve Leszczynski (2017 Vintage)
97/100 James Halliday (2017 Vintage)
Different Drop "The most sought-after of the excellent 2017 Giant Steps excellent Pinot Noirs." (2017 Vintage)
The Wine Front, Mike Bennie “Giant Steps is at top of their game. Such elegance, and, importantly, an incredible sense of energy in the wine. Now we can use the word outstanding. Acid driven, light and fragrant style, has that sense of sleekness from fine pinot tannins yet is tightly wound, coiled and precise as it rolls through the palate. Red currants, cranberry, smoke, and sweet earth to sniff on. Savoury edged red fruit to taste. Balanced, lithe, very finely wrought." (2017 Vintage)
James Halliday "Like all the Giant Steps Pinots, not fined or filtered. Light, bright crimson-purple; red flowers and fruits with a continuous whole bunch-shot text of savoury, earthy, foresty notes threaded through the red fruits." (2017 Vintage)
The Winemaker : "Predominately sourced from Giant Steps Yarra Valley vineyards, this years (2019) blend also includes 8.5% Pinot Noir from Giant Steps Tosq organic vineyard in Central Otago, New Zealand which adds a touch of structure. 40% whole bunches were included in the ferment with maturation taking place in French oak of which 10% was new for a period of 8 months. Semi-translucent bright dark red colour with black tinged edges and a light vibrant red hue. Perfumed scents of violets, dark cherries, ripe strawberries and anise sail out of the glass followed by light forest floor, dried clove and spice notes. Delicious red to dark fruits fill the mouth, spreading their way across the breadth of the palate with terrific power. Elements of anise, subtle forest floor and spicy clove also chime in. Lively finish with velvety tannins and a long, very moreish aftertaste."
