2 x Georges Duboeuf Cuvée Prestige Saint-Véran (Blanc) 2022 - Burgundy, France

Gold - Wine & Barrel - Alliances-Du-Monde Concours International (2015 vintage)

Dennis Kreps "Made entirely of the Chardonnay grape is from the Mâconnais region in France. It has a pale, golden color and a complex nose of white flowers, citrus and a touch of flintstone. Fresh and vivid, with a lengthy palate, the finish is stunning."

The Winemaker “A beautiful aromatic basket followed by a beautiful fullness in the mouth which gives it an excellent balance, the promise of great pleasure. It expresses its wonderful aromas of finesse, delicacy, from Williams pear to white peach, honey to vanilla, mineral notes to quince jelly.

This wine is produced by Les Vins Georges Duboeuf which is one of the largest wine producers in France founded by the late Georges Duboeuf who was affectionately known as 'le roi du Beaujolais' (the king of Beaujolais) or sometimes pape du Beaujolais (Pope of Beaujolais). Les Vins Georges Duboeuf produces a staggering 3 million cases of wine annually. The company is most well-known for its popularization and production of Beaujolais wines. In 2018 Georges’ passed control of his company to his son Franck Duboeuf, who is considered to be one of the key specialists in Beaujolais, its terroir and its wine, and has shifted production to focus more on Beaujolais Nouveau.

Saint-Véran is located in the Maconnaise region of Burgundy and is slightly smaller and less well known then its neighbor Pouilly-Fuissé. Similar to the rest of the region, Chardonnay is the primary grape. The wines are consistently high in quality with an added benefit of a reasonable price tag.

Burgundy (Bourgogne in French) is an historic and highly respected wine region in eastern France. Burgundy wines have long had devout followers throughout the world and continue to do so today. Although Bordeaux produces about four times as much wine every year, Burgundy’s estimated 74,000 acres (30,000ha) of vineyards are considered to be of equal importance, producing some of the most exclusive wines on Earth.

The two key grape varieties of Burgundy are Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, both members of the extended 'Pinot' family of grape varieties. There are others too, of course, like Aligoté, Pinot Gris, Gamay, and Sauvignon Blanc but the primary focus of Burgundy’s production is Pinot Noir for Bourgogne Rouge and Chardonnay for Bourgogne Blanc. Located in the east-central part of France, Burgundy has 5 primary wine growing areas; Chablis – “shab-lee” Côte de Nuits – the night slope, Côte de Beaune – the slope of Beaune, Côte Chalonnaise – the Chalon slope, Mâconnais – the region of Mâcon.

Chardonnay is one of the world’s most popular grapes, Chardonnay is made in a wide range of styles from lean, to rich, creamy white wines aged in oak. Bolder, richer, full-bodied and buttery Chardonnays are made using oak and are produced in California, Burgundy, and Australia. Unoaked chardonnays such as Chablis and those produced in Chile, New Zealand, and other parts of France are leaner and often crisp and mineraly, with delicate flavors. By law, if a label says “Chablis,” it must be Chardonnay.

Domaine Les Chenevières is a 300 year old wine estate operated by a family of winemakers for five generations. The estate is located on the commune of Saint Maurice de Satonnay, a small village located halfway between Mâcon and Cluny. Their 38-hectare vineyard is planted in three villages: Saint Maurice de Satonnay, Péronne and Azé, also renowned for its prehistoric caves. Vines are planted on slopes and mid-slopes, on clay-limestone soils exposed South / Southeast or several noble grape varieties rub shoulders harmoniously: Chardonnay - Pinot noir - Gamay - Aligoté, representing all the Burgundy appellations.

Georges Duboeuf was an award winning French wine producer and merchant, and the founder of Les Vins Georges Duboeuf: one of the largest wine producers in France. Duboeuf produces a staggering 3 million cases of wine annually. The company is most well-known for its popularization and production of Beaujolais wines, leading to Duboeuf's nicknames of le roi du Beaujolais or sometimes pape du Beaujolais (the king or pope of Beaujolais). James Suckling "One of the best ever. Drink now. Pretty aromas of strawberries, flowers and hints of dust follow through to a full body that is compact and tight with very vibrant acidity. Flavorful finish."

Decanter "Very good now and with the legs to improve.Textured and bullish, with layers of black fruits, raspberries and blueberries bound in grippy tannins."

Wine & Spirits "Best Buy!"

Roger Voss, Wine Enthusiast "Named after a family that has been in Morgon since the French Revolution, this wine shows powerful tannins and rich black fruits. It offers spice, layers of fruit and acidity, with a dry core that shows aging potential. Drink from 2021."

Wine Advocate ~ “One of Dubeouf's best this year.... bursts from the glass with a lavish bouquet of cassis, plums and cherries. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, ample and juicy, with supple but chewy tannins, a generous core of fruit and a comparatively elegant profile.” (2017 Vintage)

Wine & Spirits "Descombes was the first grower Georges Duboeuf worked with when he started his firm in 1968. This domaine is now run by Descombes’s daughter, Nicole Descombes Savoye, who produces this wine for Duboeuf from close to 30 acres with a southeast-facing exposition, the vines ranging in age from 50 to 100 years old. Made with destemmed grapes in a partial carbonic maceration, the wine is all raspberry, meadow flowers and iron-edged tannins. And it’s the tannins that last, detailed in their mineral expression, suiting the wine to long aging."

Nicole Descombes Savoye is known as “the Queen of Beaujolais”. Her family has been in the famous Morgon winemaking region since the French Revolution. Nicole’s father - the great and late Jean Ernst - which this wine is named after - is considered one of the great winemakers of the Morgon.

Les Vins Georges Duboeuf is one of the largest wine producers in France founded by the late Georges Duboeuf who was affectionately known as 'le roi du Beaujolais' (the King of Beaujolais) or sometimes pape du Beaujolais (Pope of Beaujolais). The second largest of the 10 Crus of Beaujolais in Greater Burgundy, Morgon is comprised of six climate all with slightly different styles. Their unifying feature is the decomposed schist soil called roches pourries or “rotted rocks” and locals believe this contributes to the ripe cherry aromas found in all the wines. These are wines meant to age 5–10 years (at least). The young, fleshy palate of peach, apricot, cherry, and plum will develop into a more earthy wine reminiscent of Burgundian Pinot Noir. Of the 10 crus of Beaujolais, this is the closest to Moulin-a-Vent in terms of weight and structure, and it can age nearly as well. It has a firm minerality, thanks chiefly to its granitic soils, and a fruit profile that shades towards orange.

Beaujolais is an important wine region of eastern France in the southern part of "Greater Burgundy". It is famous for its vibrant, fruity red wines made from Gamay. The widespread plantings of Gamay here make Beaujolais one of the few regions of the world to be so focused on a single grape variety. Cru Beaujolais is the highest and most-esteemed classification in the region. There are 10 crus within the Beaujolais classification, each referring to a winemaking region, rather than an individual vineyard, as in nearby Burgundy. Crus range in style, from lighter-bodied and younger-drinking to fuller, age-worthy wines. The 10 Beaujolais crus are: Brouilly, Chénas, Chiroubles, Côte de Brouilly, Fleurie, Juliénas, Morgon, Moulin-à-Vent, Régnié, and Saint-Amour.

Beaujolais is an important wine region of eastern France in the southern part of Burgundy, famous for its vibrant, fruity red wines made from Gamay. It is located immediately south of Burgundy, of which it is sometimes considered to be a part, despite being within the Rhone administrative region. The widespread plantings of Gamay here make Beaujolais one of the few regions of the world to be so focused on a single grape variety.

In some vintages, Beaujolais produces more wine than the Burgundy wine regions of Chablis, Côte d'Or, Côte Chalonnaise and Mâconnais put together.

Gamay is a grape variety that is most famous for producing the light, fruit-driven red wines of Beaujolais. While the variety offers fresh, red-fruit and candied aromas, it typically delivers little in the way of flavor concentration and body weight, giving light, simple wines.

Wine Advocate “Georges Duboeuf is the #1 selling brand of Beaujolais in the world”

Château des Capitans is owned by the Duboeuf family. Grapes for this wine come from a single, undivided, vineyard. Vines are all over 50 years of age.

One of the oldest producing areas within the ten Beaujolais Cru appellations, Julienas is named after the Roman emperor Julius Caesar, the area has a 2000 year history of grape production. Its varied soil composition of sedimentary alluvial soils near the Saone River and the sandy granite of the sloping vineyards on the Beaujolais hills make for wines can range from light and fruity, to densely concentrated and powerful. The appellation has a continental climate with cool nights and warm days, and an extended ripening season thanks to the long summers providing optimum conditions for growing quality fruit. Typically Julienas wines are earthy and weighty, with a deep ruby-red colour and strawberry, violet, cinnamon, redcurrant and peony aromas. The wines can be powerful, and flavours of vanilla and spices can also emerge

Robert Parker, Wine Advocate “It unfolds in the glass with a complex bouquet (...) fine tannins, excellent concentration and a long penetrating finish!" (2018 vintage)

Roger Voss, Wine Enthusiast “From the top vineyard site in Morgon, this wine has structure and plenty of fine tannins. Ripe black fruits are still developing through the structure of this rich wine.” (2018 vintage)

Drinks International "One of the “Ten Most Admired Wine Brands” in the world." (2018 vintage)

Wine Advocate “Georges Duboeuf is the #1 selling brand of Beaujolais in the world” (2018 vintage)

This wine is from a small one-hectare plot situated below the Côte du Py in the locality of Javernières. Winemaker Jean-Paul Brun has achieved outstanding reviews for several of his wines, including a 95 score from Decanter for his 2013 Terres Dorées Chardonnay Classic.

James Suckling "This Julienas has a very appealing interplay of restrained tannins and red fruit character with a lot of subtle spicy and earthy nuances. Juicy on the front and middle of the medium-bodied palate, then the tannins build nicely at the long, moderately dry and lively finish."

James Suckling "A delicious Juliénas..Racy red and blue berry fruit to the nose with an alluring lift of red flowers, slate and a white pepper tang. Juicy and uptight with structured tannins in a bright, medium-bodied palate. Firm, crunchy and mouthwatering finish." (2021 vintage)

Decanter World Wine Awards "Lifted aromas of blueberry, baked plum and cloves with a hint of herbal notes." (2021 vintage)

Rebecca Murphy, Wine Review Online "This is one very serious Beaujolais, with a dark ruby color, ripe raspberry, cherry and woody spices. It is medium-bodied with bright acidity and moderate tannins that will pair well with roast chicken, steak tartare or grilled salmon. " (2020 vintage)

James Suckling "A solid and compressed Beaujolais with cherry and ripe-strawberry character, firm tannins and a medium finish. It’s reserved now, but will open nicely with bottle age." (2020 vintage)

Wine Roger Voss, Wine Enthusiast "The chateau, named after the Capitans who controlled Juliénas, has one of the patterned tile roofs often found in Burgundy. This partially wood-aged wine from the 30-acre vineyard is richly structured, with some firm tannins as well as juicy black fruits." (2020 vintage)

Decanter World Wine Awards "Elegant and restrained aromas of wild strawberry lead to a palate of red fruit and green leaf." (2020 vintage)

Drinks International "One of the “Ten Most Admired Wine Brands” in the world."
