Jim's Cellar "A favourite here at Jims, the Kilikanoon Shiraz sources fruit from three of Australia's great red wine producing regions, the Barossa and Clare valleys and McLauren Vale to present a stunning wine."

Mike Bennie, Halliday Wine Companion "A juicy, fleshy expression of shiraz. Dark cherry, cola, salted licorice and sweet earthiness in scents and flavours. Soft texture upfront, slick mid-palate and the finish a bit scratchy with twiggy, clove oak characters and zingy, lemony acidity. The finish aside, a well balanced, glossy, medium- to full-weight red of simplicity and good drinkability."

James Suckling "This has rich red-plum and berry-pastry aromas that lead to a palate defined by fluffy, bright tannins that carry red-plum flavors. There’s rich fruit on offer here." (2019 vintage)

Wine Spectator "Delivers generous and appealing wild blackberry and black currant flavors, with accents of dark chocolate, a whiff of bourbon, and fresh herbal notes on the finish. This is appealing for its complexity and harmonious finish." (2019 vintage)

Wine Enthusiast "Clare Valley's comparatively cool climate is on show in this Shiraz. Make no mistake, it's still a ripe, full-figured wine, but there's added spice and refreshment. Brambly blackberries and blueberries combine with notes of mocha, wintery spice, sap and other woodsy nuances. The palate is powerful yet balanced with quite a prominent line of chalky, spicy tannins and lifted acidity. Give this time in decanter if drinking now, and plenty of protein, too." (2019 vintage)

Robert Parker, Wine Advocate "Hints of smoke and vanilla join blueberries and blackberries on the nose of the 2019 Killerman's Run Shiraz. It's medium to full-bodied yet reasonably crisp on the finish, with only modest tannins and savory notes of black olives and dried herbs." (2019 vintage)

James Suckling "This is a very rich and attractively ripe shiraz that offers a wealth of summer berries and flowers on the nose and a very drinkable, fleshy and bright palate with plum and red-berry flavors." (2018 vintage)

Ned Goodwin MW "Sassy, pulpy contemporary Oz shiraz. Violet scents. Smoked meat, blueberry, tapenade and some dried seaweed iodine notes, all pulled together by a gentle bow of reductive tension. A bit hot, but otherwise a solid glass of wine." (2018 vintage)

James Halliday "Kilikanoon has travelled in the fast lane since winemaker Kevin Mitchell established it in 1997 on the foundation of 6ha of vines he owned with father Mort. With the aid of investors, its 100 000 dozen production comes from 120ha of estate-owned vineyards. A major restructure has been completed with the acquisition of the winery that it had hitherto leased, along with the ownership of the 16.35ha Mount Surmon vineyard. This very substantial business in the Clare Valley produces 85% red wines, with a further focus on grenache. Kilikanoon accounts for over 35% of the region’s production of this variety."

Kilikanoon is recognised as one of Australia's leading wineries. From humble beginnings in 1997 with just 25,000 bottles produced from the first vintage, Kilikanoon has grown significantly, now exporting to over 25 countries.

The 2002 Clare Valley Wine Show chaired by prominent Australian wine writer and judge, Huon Hooke, propelled Kilikanoon into the spotlight, winning 6 of the 7 trophies awarded.

Shiraz, also known as Syrah is a popular red wine. Though the spiritual homeland of this red grape is France, Syrah has been planted throughout the world to great success. It expresses itself differently depending on the climate, soil and regional style.

Syrah is typically bold and full-bodied, with aromatic notes of smoke, black fruit and pepper spice. Stylistically, it can be round and fruity, or dense and tannic. And in warmer New World regions like Australia, Syrah is most often be called Shiraz.

Winemakers who work in cooler-climate growing regions, both in the Old World and New World, tend to call their wines Syrah. The most famous examples come from the northern Rhône Valley of France, notably Hermitage and Côte-Rôtie. In the New World, in regions like Sonoma Coast, California; Yarra Valley, Australia; and parts of Chile, the wines are called Syrah because they emulate the leaner, acid-driven, savory styles of the Old World French classics.

Shiraz tends to come from warmer growing climates, namely the South Australian regions of Barossa, McLaren Vale and Adelaide Hills. Stylistically, these wines are lush, fruit-forward examples that embody the warmer, sunnier climate. Shiraz is so important to Australian viticulture that it is the most planted grape variety in the majority of Australian vineyards and has become virtually synonymous with the country's wine regions, and in particular the Barossa Valley.
