Lux Magazine "Lovers of peaty and smoky whisky should jump at the chance to sip on anything Laphroaig-based, with its bold taste and full body. The smoke from its peat, found only on Islay, Scotland, gives Laphroaig its authentic, unique flavour profile."
Great Drams "floral & sweet notes"
16-year-old single malt from the much-adored Laphroaig distillery, aged in a single refill butt from February 2001 to April 2017.
Nose - Classic Laphroaig sweetness mixed with dry peat. Smells of the sea. A hint of fruit and tarry ropes.
Palate - Peat, then a wave of sticking plasters and other medicinal flavours. Tarry, still plenty of sweetness though, and dry wood.
Finish - Asphalt on a hot day, very interesting - if you like your whisky to be tarry and thick you'll love this. Good length too.
Laphroaig Distillery was established in 1815 on the rocky south coast of the Isle of Islay off the west coast of Scotland. This malt whiskey distillery continues to malt barley using its traditional malting floors and malt kiln. In 1994 the distillery was awarded the Royal Warrant. The core range is quite extensive and supplemented by limited releases including a 21-year-old was issued in 2015 to celebrate 21 years of Friends of Laphroaig. Independent bottlings are also available from Signatory, Cooper's Choice, and Hunter Laing. Laphroaig distillery also participates in Feis Ile, the Islay Festival of Malt and Music.
