Majella Sparkling Shiraz 2009 ~ Coonawarra, South Australia

Majella Sparkling Shiraz 2009 ~ Coonawarra, South Australia

This is great……and here’s why!

James Halliday, 5 Star Winery.

Majella is one of the most awarded small wineries in Australia. Critics consistently rate vintages of this sparkling Coonawarra wine highly.

Ray Jordan, The West Australian ~ " A beauty....Spicy licorice and intensely powerful Shiraz. Rich and leathery."

Wine List Australia ~ "The pick of Coonawarra Shiraz, treated to an extravagantly extended fermentation, for maximal uptake of dense, chocolatey purple fruit flavours, rakish colour and wickedly decadent chewy licorice textures, two years and more on gross sedimentery lees to infuse the wine with wanton richness, while taming and integrating the prodigal tannins."

International Judges' Award (2010 vintage)
93 points ~ Tyson Stelzer (2006 vintage)
92 points ~ Collin Mattison & Gary Walsh (2005 vintage)

Sparkling red wines are a great Australian tradition, and along with other wineries, Majella has kept the tradition alive with their very popular sparkling Shiraz.

Majella Sparkling Shiraz is bottled fermented on "lees" for just on 24 months. The wine is then disgorged and a small amount of "liqueur" (sweetener) is added. In true Aussie tradition some fantastic vintage port is used as the sweetener.
