Robert Parker "Deep garnet colored, the 2006 Sparkling Shiraz offers notes of ripe cherries and warm blackberries with some anise, dark chocolate and baking spices. The full bodied palate has a touch of sweetness countered by crisp acidity and fine bubbles. Rich and concentrated with a nice suggestion of velvety texture, it has a long finish with lingering notes of black pepper and licorice. Catching-up with owner Brian Lynn recently, in addition to his current releases I tasted through verticals of Majella’s Riesling, Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz and The Malleea to track the evolution of the styles. Sparkling red wines are a great Australian tradition, and along with other wineries, Majella has kept the tradition alive with their very popular sparkling Shiraz.

Majella Sparkling Shiraz is bottled fermented on "lees" for just on 24 months. The wine is then disgorged and a small amount of "liqueur" (sweetener) is added. In true Aussie tradition some fantastic vintage port is used as the sweetener.

Majella is one of the most awarded small wineries in Australia. Critics consistently rate vintages of this sparkling Coonawarra wine highly."
