David Zyw "...it is a glorious awakening to a new way to enjoy sparkling"

Houn Hooke "Deep red/purple colour, with a youthful aroma of tobacco and cassis aromas, the palate sweet and fruity and big on berry flavours that suggest there's some cabernet in the wine. Or is it just the Coonawarra terroir? A bold and hearty sparkling red with firm but balanced tannins and a clean finish." (2020 vintage)

Winemaker "The robe is a vibrant dark red with bright ruby hue. The nose exhibits attractive fresh plum, raspberry, & blackberry aromas. On its complex palate, it is smooth, balanced, & luscious revealing black fruit characters with spice hints properly framed by gentle tannins carrying through to a generous finish." (2020 vintage)

Huon Hooke "Deep red colour with a tint of purple, and a dark-fruit and grated coconut aroma. There's a touch of chew on the finish, which is relatively dry and carries a fair boost of tannin. It calls for protein, such as a hearty barbecued steak." (2019 vintage)

James Suckling "Deep red colour with a tint of purple, and a dark-fruit and grated coconut aroma. There's a touch of chew on the finish, which is relatively dry and carries a fair boost of tannin. It calls for protein, such as a hearty barbecued steak." (2017 vintage)

Robert Parker "Deep garnet colored, the 2006 Sparkling Shiraz offers notes of ripe cherries and warm blackberries with some anise, dark chocolate and baking spices. The full bodied palate has a touch of sweetness countered by crisp acidity and fine bubbles. Rich and concentrated with a nice suggestion of velvety texture, it has a long finish with lingering notes of black pepper and licorice. Catching-up with owner Brian Lynn recently, in addition to his current releases I tasted through verticals of Majella’s Riesling, Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz and The Malleea to track the evolution of the styles. The results go to show, it certainly pays to put a few bottles of these well constructed wines away." (2006 vintage)

James Halliday "Full-bodied, complex and rich; ripe fruit, and definitely needs food. Disgorged" (2005 vintage)

Majella Winemakers Comments "The colour is a vibrant dark red with a bright ruby hue. Exhibiting a fine bead with attractive fresh plum, raspberry and blackberry aromas with similar black fruit characters and a hint of spice on the complex palate, which is smooth, balanced and luscious with gentle tannins and a generous finish." (2005 vintage)

Tyson Stelzer "Another glorious Majella Sparkling Shiraz greets the world ........... Like every Majella red, it’s a tribute to the finely manicured estate vines of one of Australia’s most celebrated vineyards, layered with plum and dark berry fruit and just the right touch of dark chocolate oak." (2005 vintage)

Sparkling red wines are a great Australian tradition, and along with other wineries, Majella has kept the tradition alive with their very popular sparkling Shiraz.

Majella Sparkling Shiraz is bottled fermented on "lees" for just on 24 months. The wine is then disgorged and a small amount of "liqueur" (sweetener) is added. In true Aussie tradition some fantastic vintage port is used as the sweetener.

Majella is one of the most awarded small wineries in Australia. Critics consistently rate vintages of this sparkling Coonawarra wine highly."
