Rob Dolan True Colours Semillon Sauvignon Blanc 2014 ~ Yarra Valley, Australia
92/100 James Halliday
James Halliday ~ "This is fresh and crisp but it has enough body to mull over. Lemongrass, citrus, passionfruit and gravel. Mouthwatering but simultaneously textural and soft."
Rob Dolan - Winemaker ~ “Vintage 2014 was the most challenging in my 25 years in the Yarra Valley. The cool weather during flowering in Spring resulted in poor fruit set, therefore producing lower than expected yields from most vineyards across the Yarra Valley, some down by up to 60%. The resultant wines, however, support the popular belief that smaller yields produce exceptional wines. The ripening period was long and steady, ideal for acid retention and full flavour development.”
Rob Dolan has been a Yarra Valley winemaker for over 20 years and is recognised as one of the great characters of the wine industry. Rob has an outstanding winemaking record and has played a pivotal role in the evolution of the Yarra Valley. His first experience in the Yarra Valley was as senior winemaker at Yarra Ridge winery, one of the success stories of the 90’s being the benchmark Pinot Noir of their time. Rob went on to launch two more successful Yarra Valley brands – Sticks and Punt Road (“Sticks” being Rob’s nickname as a premiership ruck man with Port Adelaide Football Club but don’t hold that against him!).
Rob’s True Colours range of wines is approachable and instantly likeable, much like the man himself. The wines are produced using premium Yarra Valley fruit highlighting regional and varietal characters and reflecting the welcoming personality of the Winemaker. These are Rob Dolan’s True Colours.
