Sebastien Dampt Chablis 2017 - Burgundy, France

$52   $70

This is great……and here’s why!

90/100 - Burghound

Burghound "There is an abundance of classic Chablis character to the floral, citrus and petrol-suffused nose. There is fine mid-palate density on the medium weight flavours that are at once opulent and energetic, all wrapped in a clean, dry, long and citrusy finish. This is an excellent example of the genre and also worth checking out."

The Real Review "All the wines are estate made and bottled, and show what can be done with exceptional fruit to produce wines with the personality that reflect their terroir."

Sébastien Dampt is a rising star of Chablis. He is part of a dynasty that has been making wine in the region for over 150 years. Having studied in Beaune and gained experience around France, he returned to work for his family's Domaine in 2005 alongside father Daniel and brother Vincent. In 2007 he took 7 ha of family land and created an estate in his own name based in Milly to the west of Chablis.

The Sébastien Dampt Domaine is situated in the village of Milly to the west of Chablis. Split 50/50 between Village wine and Premier Cru, the wines are all vinified and raised in stainless steel to preserve the classic, steely appeal much loved of this venerable region. The new winery, which was built in 1990, is completely surrounded by vines and is all state of the art technology, with a wonderful tasting room overlooking the beautiful vineyards of Vaillons and Les Lys.

Chablis is a historic wine-producing town and region in northern central France. It produces light, dry, white wines famed for their flinty minerality and crisp acidity. AOC Chablis wines are produced exclusively from the Chardonnay grape variety. Chablis wines are made in a style rather different from those produced elsewhere in Burgundy. They are drier and fresher, rather than more weighty and richly flavoured.

Chardonnay is one of the world’s most popular grapes, Chardonnay is made in a wide range of styles from lean, to rich, creamy white wines aged in oak. Bolder, richer, full-bodied and buttery Chardonnays are made using oak and are produced in California, Burgundy, and Australia. Unoaked chardonnays such as Chablis and those produced in Chile, New Zealand, and other parts of France are leaner and often crisp and minerally, with delicate flavours. By law, if a label says “Chablis,” it must be Chardonnay.
