Layers of perfume with pears and apples, pretty spice, floral characters, then a slipperiness and concentration in palate lifted on (one suspects) the tang of frisky Riesling influence."
Sommelier Wine Awards 2017 "This complex blend was a clear Gold winner. ‘Riesling character with mineral and lime on the nose and some development, off-dry on the palate, nice balance on the finish,’ said team leader Lionel Periner, while Gaetano Giangaspero of Coya Mayfair enjoyed its ‘apricot and pear fruit on nose and palate, and a long fresh finish’. Coq d’Argent’s Andrés Ituarte appreciated its ‘notes of bay leaf, eucalyptus and pear, with a really lovely mineral finish – a match for langoustines’.
The Winemaker ~ "Riesling, Pinot Gris and Gewurztraminer combine seamlessly into a gently textural, medium-bodied wine. Flavours of apple, pear and lots of spice (from sweet floral spice to zingy white pepper) makes this a multi-dimensional blend and will serve it well when paired with a variety of lightly spiced, Asian-influenced dishes.This Alsace-style blend is generously aromatic giving super-youthful aromas of pear drop, white flowers and candied banana. On the palate the blending combination makes perfect sense, a case of the whole being greater than the sum of its parts."
The Swinneys are a pair of brother-and-sister winemakers who recently had two of their wines invited onto the wine lists at The Ivy and Savoy Grill (Gordon Ramsay) restaurants in London. The latter is located inside The Savoy Hotel, perhaps the most famous hotel in the world. Swinney Vineyards made its debut in Halliday’s Australian Wine Companion 2015 with a five-star rating and were ranked in the top ten of best new wineries.
This wine is one of those invited on to the wine list at the Savoy Grill (a Gordon Ramsay restaurant) where it sells for £51 a bottle (approximately $100). It has also been invited onto wine list of The Ivy.
Frankland River is a key Australian wine sub-region the south of Western Australia. It is located just inland from the Southern Ocean coast, 115 miles east of Margaret River. Frankland River is the coldest wine region in continental Australia. Riesling is the area's specialty, with its crisp, fresh style standing out from the more diesel–kerosene notes found in the warmer regions further north.
