Teusner "Woodside" Sauvignon Blanc 2014 ~ Adelaide Hills, Australia
James Halliday - 94/100
Campbell Mattinson, The Wine Front - 92/100
5 star winery - James Halliday
James Halliday "....it seems Teusner can work the same magic with sauvignon blanc as it does with his better known red wines.......a positively juicy and joyous rendition of the variety, passionfruit to the fore, backed by kiwi fruit and a touch of pineapple, and ripe citrussy acidity..... ."
Campbell Mattinson, The Wine Front “Good drinking option for the coming summer. Life and flavour, and lots of it. Passionfruit, grass, gunmetal and nectarine. Punches out flavour from the get-go and keeps it going all the way through to the finish. Better than the 2013 release. Really good.”
The Wine Society "Aromas of passionfruit, gooseberry, honeydew melon and paw paw with some light notes of tomato leaf and nettle. Hints of marzipan, almond paste, freshly cut fennel, lemon curd and clotted cream add to the wines complexity on the nose. Plenty of energy as the wine enters the mouth with crisp, crunchy fruit flavours flitting across the tongue. Flavours of passionfruit, melon, banana, gooseberry and tropical fruit combine in a heady mix. There are hints of crème fraiche, nettle, marzipan, anise and custard apple along with a gorgeous blast of lemon curd."
Teusner were formed in 2001 following a chance encounter in a South Australia pub - founders Kym Teusner and Mick Page overhead a couple of local winemakers contemplating tearing up their 85 year old Grenache vines. Kym and Mick stepped up to the plate and made them an offer they could not refuse.
Most of their wines are from the Barossa Valley, world famous for it's Grenache and Shiraz - but not it's Sauvignon Blanc. Teusner have sourced the grapes for this wine from Woodside in the Adelaide Hills, the home of Australia's best Sauvignon Blanc.
