Wine Enthusiast "This is an excellent bottling of Awatea, the younger brother of Te Mata's top red, Coleraine. From a long, warm growing season, this feels like a complete wine. Winter warming notes of plump plums, dark cherries and chocolate are complemented by a bounty of dried herbs, spices and graphite. The palate is similarly dense and structured but with elegance and balance. Tannins are powdery and fine, winding through dark, tangy fruit and herbs. Huon Hooke" Very deep, bold, bright purple/red colour leads into a superbly fragrant cabernet nose of violets, cassis, cedar and tobacco, while the palate is intense and bright, focused and elegant, with abundant fine tannins but also ready drinkabilty and superb balance. This is a region of climatic extremes with typically very hot summers, short autumns and bitterly cold winter days. Successive periods of glaciation and recession, followed by erosion by Mata Au / Clutha River have shaped the Nanny Goat Estate landscape by creating distinct terraces of alluvial soils that are pastiche of loess, gravel, schist and mineral quartz. Generations of farming and the associated cultivation of lucerne and other feed crops have added organic matter to the wind blowen loessial topsoil providing us with a nice balance between vine vigor and free draining attributes.

The Queensberry range is 100% sourced from our home vineyard in Queensberry. BioGro Certified organic, this single vineyard range sees the benefits of the adoption of organic and regenerative viticultural practices, both environmentally and qualitatively. The effect of healthy soils and resilient vines is evident in the quality of fruit and characteristics of this wine.

Hand picked and whole bunch pressed to stainless steel tank for a brief period of settling before being gently mixed and transferred to 500L French oak Puncheon (20% new) with high solids and left to ferment naturally with occasional lees stirring to enhance palate weight and texture. The wine underwent full Malolactic fermentation in barrel during its 10 months of maturation, softening the palate yet retaining a fine vein of acidity and giving a wonderful balance to the palate.

Chardonnay is one of the world’s most popular grapes, Chardonnay is made in a wide range of styles from lean, to rich, creamy white wines aged in oak. Bolder, richer, full-bodied and buttery. The Domaine Pouilly Fuisse Clos Reyssie has been described to be buttery and complex, and is the perfect companion for a meal of chicken or turkey.

Gary Walsh "Ras el hanout (راس الحانوت) is a spice mix that means ‘head of the shop’, and maybe we have a bull in a shop here, such is the level of exotic spice and perfume pumping out of the glass. In with that, some lavender and vanilla, cherry and redcurrant, a smattering of green herb too. It’s light to medium-bodied, fine emery tannin, juicy raspberry acidity and flavour, inner-mouth perfume and spiced wood aromatic, and a dusty white pepper texture and taste on a cool long finish. Nice and ‘minerally’ too. You have to like them spicy and lithe, and if so, this’ll be close to the top of the shop for you."

Huon Hooke "...a pronounced spicy, peppery aroma, the palate sweet rich and deep in very elegant, classy fruit flavour. The tannins are ample and refined, balanced and the wine is overall delicious. Black pepper, subtle cloves and other spices. It has a core of fruit sweetness that is utterly delicious."
