85/100 - WhiskyBase

A deliciously smooth, mellow long-aged Auchentoshan. This 21yo Lowland single malt is a sophisticated and well-balanced dram to savour slowly after a good meal.

Nose: Soft and supple. Dry grass. Fruity notes, a citrus edge and very floral honey.

Palate: Oily, nuttiness. Dry and rounded with sugared peels.

Finish: Apricot conserve on granary toast with dry citrus notes.

One of the few triple-distilled single malts in Scotland, in May of 2008, Auchentoshan went through a revamp; bottle labels were altered, the range was changed and the visitor centre was renovated. The origins of the distillery are quite shrouded, it originally started life under the name ‘Duntocher’, which was first mentioned around the turn of the nineteenth century.
