89/100 - Huon Hooke (2012 vintage)
88/100 - Ben Edwards (2012 vintage)

5-star Winery – Halliday Wine Companion

Huon Hooke "Medium to light, bright yellow hue and a fresh, clean, floral riesling aroma suggests a late-harvest, non-botrytised riesling. It's a straightforward fruit style, with bright frisky fruit and acidity, not complex or profound, but refreshing light, lively style of semi-sweet riesling. Nice." (2012 Vintage)

Ben Edwards "Green apple, citrus blossom, bath talc and coriander are all evident on the bouquet; lightly sweet, with plenty of finesse and freshness. Best consumed now. 375ml." (2012 Vintage)

Halliday Wine Companion Winery “Sticky-sweet while retaining the fresh acidity from the cool night's chill.”

Rolf Binder and sister Christa Deans, produce a range of highly acclaimed Barossa premium wines using fruit from their own estate and other Barossa vineyards. Rolf focuses on red winemaking, for which he has received international accolades, and Christa is rated by James Halliday as “one of the region’s finest white winemakers”.

Binder and Deans jointly earned the Barossa ‘Winemaker of the Year’ award from the Barons of the Barossa in 2005.

Late harvest wine is wine made from grapes left on the vine longer than usual. Late harvest is usually an indication of a sweet dessert wine, such as late harvest Riesling. Late harvest grapes are often more similar to raisins, but have been naturally dehydrated while on the vine.

The Barossa Valley is an extremely important wine-producing region within the Barossa in South Australia, particularly associated with powerful red wines from the red wine grape variety Shiraz. A prestigious and internationally renowned region, it is not only home to some of the oldest vineyards and wineries in Australia but produces some of its most recognizable and sought-after brands.

Riesling is a light-skinned, aromatic grape of German origin which is – if the majority of top wine critics are to be believed – the world's finest white wine grape variety. The Riesling vine holds a very different place in the wine world to such great grapes as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot or Chardonnay. While these immensely popular varieties have conquered every corner of the winegrowing world, Riesling is conspicuously absent from the core wine regions of France, Spain and Italy. Riesling's home is the regions that trace the middle Rhine and the lower Mosel, two of Europe's great wine rivers.
