"Organic Winery of the Year" - NZ Organic Wine Awards

Bob Campbell, The Real Review "Concentrated wine with ripe cherry, plum and raspberry flavours together with nuances of floral and fresh herb flavours supported by moderately assertive tannins. Accessible now and with the potential for bottle development."

Cameron Douglas MS "Many classic attributes greet the nose for this Otago Pinot Noir with a bouquet of ripe and richness, there’s no mistaking the variety with dark cherry skin and black currant, a savoury dried herb quality and layers of barrel spices and some toasty wood smoke qualities. Ripe, firm, dry and complex as the wine touches the palate, flavours of wood smoke and black currant, thyme, rosemary and wild dried herbs. Tannins deliver a firm coarse chalky mouthfeel while acidity layers in back bone and squeeze. A wine of complexity and charm, a wine also of youth needing cellar time to harmonise and integrate completely."

Cameron Douglas MS "Distinctive, varietal, earthy and mineral with a line of new French oak spice and barrel toast. Aromas and flavours include a classic Otago savouriness with bracken and crumbled stone outlined by dark cherry and fresh raspberry flesh, plum and then baking spices of vanilla and clove. Tannins add structure and plenty of mouthfeel as does the acidity." (2020 vintage)

QWine "Organically farmed, there is plenty of depth but it's not weighty. Slick and silky, dark plums and dark cherries and flanked by pan juices, dancy delicate spices and some mushroom compost. An earthiness cruises through the mid-palate adding another level of interest before grippy, drying cocoa tannins ride out to a sustained finish. I'll have a glass thanks. No, make it two. Smart gear." (2020 vintage)

Michael Cooper "Concentrated richness and mushroom-like earthiness – juicy and succulent in the palate with cherry sweetness, a sultry savouriness, a touch of chocolate and fruit cake spices – very attractive and generous. (2020 vintage)

Bob Campbell MW "Luscious, concentrated pinot noir with a mix of floral, plum, dark cherry, cassis and spicy flavours. Dense, silken-textured wine with an unmistakable Central Otago signature. A heady wine that is delicious now but no rush." (2019 vintage)

Cameron Douglas MS "Tense, ripe, varietal and loaded with primary fruit and mineral energy. Bright red and dark cherry, raspberry and redcurrant. Baking spices of oak with a vanilla and cedar suggestion, a whisper of bacon then a quiet wood smoke moment. Quite powerful and youthful on the palate with fruit flavours that reflect the nose, an abundance of tannins and acidity add texture and energy. Lengthy finish with a primary, fruit centric power and contrasting wood and acid structure. Plenty of minerality this wine needs more cellar to really showcase its personality and pinosity." (2019 vintage)

James Suckling "Rich spiced-cherry and fresh red-plum nose with raspberries, violets and smoked-meat elements. The palate has vibrant plum flavor and a smooth sheen of fine, velvety tannin. Fresh and balanced." (2019 vintage)

Bob Campbell MW "Bright, youthful pinot noir with red rose, floral, dark cherry, anise, dried herb, thyme and spicy oak flavours supported by peppery tannins. An elegant wine with obvious cellaring potential" (2018 vintage)

Cam Douglas "Ruby and purple core with a purple rim, bright and shiny appearance. Very youthful bouquet with primary fruit aromas of plums and cherries, moderate intensity scents of oak, fleshy, young, savoury, pretty and inviting. On the palate - Dry, fresh, savoury and textured with a mix of fine to firm tannins, plenty of acidity and a core of fruit. All the raw energy of this wine is on show and needs time to settle in more and begin to harmonise - this is best completed in a cool dark cellar. This wine is also fresh, lively, packed with pinosity and charm and will reward those who decant for service or better still age a little longer with best drinking from later in 2021 through 2026." (2018 vintage)

Amisfield was established in 1988 and has built up a reputation for quality wines, especially Pinot Noir. Their state-of-the-art purpose built winery is the focal point of the vineyard, and gathered global attention when visited by Will and Kate on their Royal tour of New Zealand.

Established in Central Otago, Amisfield produces beautiful pinot noir and aromatic white wines sourced from fruit grown on its Estate vineyard beneath the Pisa mountain range in the Cromwell Basin. Over 80ha is currently planted, and the majority of the vines are over ten years old. Amisfield philosophy is simple: minimal intervention in the winemaking process and ultimate fruit purity.

Amisfield is currently in conversion to full organic certification with New Zealand’s leading body, BioGro.
