A limited edition, natural cask strength Single Malt Scotch Whisky from Dailuaine, an active distillery on Speyside. Only the fourth new official bottling and the first for six years, this is an outstanding and unusually fragrant example of this robust classic that has an unexpected spicy complexity. Very rich and full flavoured, with tempting notes of dried fruit, gingerbread and cured meat, as well as leather and tobacco.

Nose - Big-hitting aromas of currants, citrus and cured meat. Dense, dark, overdone gingerbread with bittersweet spices – musky clove, burnt cinnamon sugar – and a sprinkling of cocoa powder.

Palate - Sweet and clean candied orange, orange-glazed ham, dark chocolate and a refreshing tang of zingy grapefruit. Chocolate-dipped oranges served in a cigar-box factory, with a meaty, leathery note on the side.

Finish - Superb balance between dry barrel char and sweet spices. Classy and alluring.

Dailuaine also operates a dark grains plant, whose principal job is to convert draff into feed for cattle. The plant currently processes around 900 tonnes weekly. The bulk of single malt produced at the distillery is used for blending in Johnnie Walker. The spirit is filled at Cambus and then transported to Black range for maturation in the Diageo-owned warehouses. Single malt bottlings from Dailuaine are few and far between; there have been few independent bottlings and but a handful of official releases.
