Wine Spectator "Intriguing and aromatic, this has a singed note to the up-front peach, honeysuckle and jasmine flavors, but the lush core is pure melon, apricot and lemon curd on a fleshy frame. Finishes with candied ginger, marmalade and spice, with fresh vibrant acidity."

Vinous "Unlike most Marlborough Sauvignons, the 2021 Dog Point Sauvignon Blanc is cropped low and hand-harvested in a bid to increase concentration and restraint, respectively. This is a Scrappy Doo of a wine with its youthful “lemme at 'em” vivacity. It has masses of dissolved CO2, clearly visible on pouring, which provides a slight crackle in the mouth. The wine is citrus-driven, with lemon and lime meeting pineapple and more subtle details of jasmine, green herbs and flint. The finish is powerful and intense, potentially due to the naturally low yields of 2021 adding that extra punch."

Vintage "A mild spring after a wet winter in 2021 gave the vines a good start to growth. Budburst occurred around average timing from early September with only a few frost events occurring. Flowering was kind and produced what would have been a favourable yield. However, December and February brought significant rainfall (more than 200mm) to the usually dry period, giving the vines renewed vigour but unfortunately also increased the threat of disease. Hand dropping of diseased bunches was paramount to retain quality. This resulted in a smaller than expected harvest but one with ample classic fruit driven characters."

Tom Cannavan "Hand-picked from its own vineyards in Marlborough, Dog Point's Sauvignon is bright, crisp and super-fresh, more typical in Marlborough style than the barrel-fermented 'Section 94' cuvée, with huge punch and verve. Passion fruit is there, with tropical notes suggesting lychee and guava, a touch of capsicum, but really all about the fruit. In the mouth the texture has some richness and mealiness to it, the citrus blast of the acidity balanced perfectly against that more unctuous, tropical fruit into a dry and beautfully balanced finish. Dog Point is a prestigious wine producer based in Marlborough, in New Zealand's South Island. As with most producers from the region, Dog Point's most notable wines are produced from Sauvignon Blanc.

The winery was established in the early 2000s by Ivan Sutherland and James Healy who had previously worked together at Cloudy Bay as viticulturalist and oenologist respectively. The vineyards were some of the earliest to be planted in Marlborough and thus have some of the oldest vines in the region. Dog Point is named for the sheep-herding history of the area.

Organic philosophies drive Dog Point's approach to wine growing and in March 2012, 150 hectares of Vineyards were certified organic by BioGro New Zealand, with another 60 hectares certified as C1 (2 years in conversion).

A flock of around 2,000 sheep including Romney, Perendale Cross and Merino Wiltshire Cross are grazed in the winter to keep the grass low and fertilise as they go.

After pruning; all the prunings, any grass or cover crops are mulched and added to the compost heap. This is spread under the vines to help conserve moisture and improve soil structure. A mob of 25 steers are also grazed on the property.

Marlborough is New Zealand's most important wine region by far. Situated at the northeastern tip of the South Island, this dry, sunny region is home to over 500 growers and produces around three-quarters of all New Zealand wine.

The Sauvignon Blanc taste is one of the most identifiable in the world of white wines for a few reasons. First, it always has crisp, high acidity. Second, it has a chemical compound called pyrazine which gives grassy, herbal or bell pepper flavors. When grown in cooler climates or picked early, the herbaceous green character is most prominent. In warmer climates or allowed to hang longer on the vine, the pyrazine character diminishes in favor of riper fruit flavors ranging from grapefruit, to passion fruit and guava.
