90/100 Jane Faulker, Halliday Wine Companion (2016 vintage)
Bronze - Huon Hooke, The Real Review (2016 vintage)

Amanda Yallop, The Real Review "Purple/red to brick colour. Gentle aromas of blackberry and liquorice. Big and bold in flavour and body, notes of damson, cherry cola and dried herbs. Chewy tannin, grippy texture and a warm, spicy finish." (2018 vintage)

Tyson Tyler, Halliday Wine Companion "Fleshy, rich and ripe. Succulent black plum and blueberry shiraz is underscored by the blackcurrant density and fine tannin profile of cabernet. Dark and milk chocolate notes are derived from both fruit and oak. Quintessential Barossa generosity, rich and ready." (2018 vintage)

Jane Faulker, Halliday Wine Companion "A neat mix of dark and tangy red fruits with a hint of cassis, menthol and mocha; while not a big wine, the tannins are savoury, the acid fresh making it a drink-now proposition." (2016 vintage)

Huon Hooke, The Real Review "Deep, quite dense red colour with tints of both brick-red and purple, the bouquet showing some development, with appealing fresh-herb and berry aromas, undergrowth and a note of tomato-bush. The palate is medium to full-bodied and well-endowed with firm tannins, adding length and kick to the finish. A solid wine and good value." (2016 vintage)

Winemakers notes "A full-bodied, full-flavoured classic is the promise behind the very deep brick red colour. Notes of tea leaf, cedar, sweet berries, spice, chocolate and cigar box aromas fill the glass. Ripe black forest fruits and spice are balanced by rounded tannins and seamless structure. The palate reflects the nose with flavours of cedar, stewed fruit and cigar box. Fine drying tannins. A pleasant lingering finish with restrained oak notes of mocha and tobacco. A fresh vibrant palate with good depth of flavour and layers of fruit. Very tight wine that is complex but not confusing."

James Halliday "Established in '97 as a collaboration with James and Jackie Hahn, who retired in '10, this is a brand of sibling winemakers Rolf Binder and Christa Deans, alongside sister labels Magpie Estate and formerly also Rolf Binder Wines. Rolf remains involved in the winemaking; he has also extended distribution internationally. Exclusively devoted to red wines, the range celebrates the traditional varieties of shiraz, cabernet sauvignon and merlot. Tom White of Curator Wine Co has been winemaker at JJ Hahn since ’22; he purchased the brand in ’23."

JJ Hahn is a result of a partnership with gun winemaker Rolf Binder and the Hahn family who have been growing grapes in the Barossa since 1845. JJ Hahn's 'Reginald' has become known as a consistently high quality and great value example of the classic Australian blend of Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon.

This 2013 vintage of JJ Hahn Reginald is a full-flavoured Barossa red wine offering up ripe black forest fruits and mocha flavours, along with some attractive spice, rounded soft tannins and excellent persistent weight on the palate. A complex yet approachable red - this will appeal to the many fans of this outstanding Aussie red.
