Neal Martin “ This is a supremely well made Cape Blend from Kanonkop...The palate is very well balanced with fine tannins and crisp acidity that lends an appealing edginess..... the fruit comes through toward the finish and leaves residues of black pepper and tangy seaweed on the finish.....The bouquet offers a mixture of red and black plums, a touch of white pepper and a light Provencal herb note. It opens nicely with aeration.”
The Wine Advocate "this represents a delightful wine that delivers well for the price....begins with juicy red and black fruit essence over dusty purple flowers with plum skin, blackberry and hints of spice on the nose. Medium to full-bodied, the wine is open and expressive in the mouth with a balanced structure and fruit that is more red-berried, with plum and cherry essence. Ending with a lingering finish and lifting tannins...Give it a try."
Wine Spectator "...a terrific introduction to the winery’s reds.....a pure and juicy wine with elegance that’s perfect for turkey. It also has enough structure to be paired with heavier side dishes. A pure, well-crafted red, with notes of stewed plum and mulberry accented by notes of vanilla and cardamom. Shows both density and elegance, with a slightly chewy tannic structure on the well-defined finish."
The Winemaker “The bright ruby colour of this wine is complimented on the nose by attractive aromas of red currants, cherries, spice and a touch of mocha. The palate is lively and fresh, with succulent raspberry flavours. The fruit is supported by a firm, yet silky tannin structure. Savoury notes persist on the lengthy finish.”
Kanonkop Estate is one of the most recognisable names in South African wine, and Drink’s International 2020 Most Admired Wine Brand in Africa & the Middle East and listed at #32 on the 'Most Admired Wine Brands in the World'. The estate is located in the Stellenbosch region of South Africa and has been owned by the same family for four generations. Kanonkop wines are classically-styled, bold and hearty, emboding a traditional wine style that has been maintained by award-winning winemaker Abrie Beeslaar, who won the International Wine and Spirit Competition’s award for International Winemaker of the Year in 2008, 2015 and 2017. Kanonkop Estate is the only winery to have won the prestigious trophy for Best Blended Red at the International Wine & Spirits Competition four times. The winery is famous for being one of the first producers to grow and vinify Pinotage, South Africa's signature grape variety. Kanonkop Estate wines are often referred to as South Africa's 'First Growth'. The estate makes red wines from the classic Bordeaux varieties Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc.
