Shanteh Wale, Halliday Wine Companion "The base wine sees maturation in second- and third-use French oak hogsheads. On lees for 14 months. Kalamata olive, blackberry and mulberry. Cinnamon, nutmeg and clove. Shiso leaf and coffee grinds. Nicely weighted with spice and fine tannins. A balanced sweetness."

Campbell Mattinson, Halliday Wine Companion "This slips down easily. Ripe/sweet redcurrant and plum flavours, pure and free, run evenly and openly through an uncomplicated palate. Talk about smooth. As dangerously drinkable as they come." (2021 vintage)

David Zyw "...it is a glorious awakening to a new way to enjoy sparkling" (2020 vintage)

Houn Hooke, The Real Review "Deep red/purple colour, with a youthful aroma of tobacco and cassis aromas, the palate sweet and fruity and big on berry flavours that suggest there's some cabernet in the wine. Or is it just the Coonawarra terroir? A bold and hearty sparkling red with firm but balanced tannins and a clean finish." (2020 vintage)

Winemaker "The robe is a vibrant dark red with bright ruby hue. The nose exhibits attractive fresh plum, raspberry, & blackberry aromas. On its complex palate, it is smooth, balanced, & luscious revealing black fruit characters with spice hints properly framed by gentle tannins carrying through to a generous finish." (2020 vintage)

Huon Hooke "Deep red colour with a tint of purple, and a dark-fruit and grated coconut aroma. There's a touch of chew on the finish, which is relatively dry and carries a fair boost of tannin. It calls for protein, such as a hearty barbecued steak." (2019 vintage)

James Suckling "Deep red colour with a tint of purple, and a dark-fruit and grated coconut aroma. There's a touch of chew on the finish, which is relatively dry and carries a fair boost of tannin. It calls for protein, such as a hearty barbecued steak." (2017 vintage)

Sparkling red wines are a great Australian tradition, and along with other wineries, Majella has kept the tradition alive with their very popular sparkling Shiraz.

Majella Sparkling Shiraz is bottled fermented on "lees" for just on 24 months. The wine is then disgorged and a small amount of "liqueur" (sweetener) is added. In true Aussie tradition some fantastic vintage port is used as the sweetener.

Majella is one of the most awarded small wineries in Australia. Critics consistently rate vintages of this sparkling Coonawarra wine highly.
