Erin Larkin "Fermentation in a combination of stainless steel and oak, matured for a further 6 months with minimal oak contact. Juicy, spicy and fine, this isn't the bombastic and rotund performance that I recall from years gone by – the choice of fermentation vessels surely setting its expression in stone. On the floral, shaley, bouncy side of the street. Brilliant value for money"

Aaron Brasher "Aromas of cedar, eucalyptus, blackberry and spice. Bright and lively on the palate, there's a core of brambly dark fruits working nicely with firm, grippy tannins and punchy acidity. Plenty of palate weight and fleshiness here."

Ralph Kyte-Powell "A crowd-pleasing cabernet-shiraz blend at a very good price. Appearance is medium depth ruby red, and the aromas of raspberry, blackcurrant, herbs and eucalyptus are fresh and appetising. It's a medium weight mouthful, nicely built, with good depth, and excellent balance of quenching acidity and drying tannins."

Jane Faulkner "This ticks all the vibrant and fresh boxes and the drink-now one. Bright juicy blue fruits, lots of spearmint and tomato leaf with a palate full of energy and tangy acidity leading, rather than tannins." (2019 vintage)

Huon Hooke "Bold pepperminty aroma, fresh and bright, the palate lean and sinewy, with a slight dip in the middle and a tense, tight finish. It needs food, as it’s a bit firm and taut for a drink-now red at the present moment. But it is good value. " (2019 vintage)

Campbell Mattinson " Good colour, fragrance, texture and drinkability; the flavours flow evenly and well. Minted blackcurrant is the essential flavour profile, redcurrant and dust as sidelines. For everyday drinking it will take some beating." (2018 vintage)

The flavours are juicy and dark, there's plenty of plummy and mulberry fruits teamed with grippy tannin, a little leafiness and crunchy acidity. Majella is one of the most awarded small Australian wineries. It is family-owned and based in the famous Coonawarra wine region of South Australia. The Coonawarra wine region is characterized by its soils, known far and wide as “terra Rossa” - literally “red earth”.

The Coonawarra “Terra Rossa” forms a long, linear shape, little more than 20km long, and in parts only a few kilometres wide.

This soil is regarded as one of the premium viticultural soils of the world and Majella is fortunate that its vineyards are situated on the eastern edge of this famous “red stripe”.
