CamDouglas MS "An excellent bouquet with a core of ripe, dark skinned red berries and baking spices, plums and clove, baked blackcurrant and old roses, vanilla and some smoky wood moments. Dry, concentrated, focused and new. Salivating as the wine touches the palate with core flavours of dark berries and smoky wood then blackcurrant and baking spices. Firm tannins and acidity set a core foundation for the fruit and signature style. A long finish and youthful power."

Bob Campbell, The Real Review "An elegant rather than blockbuster pinot noir with a mix of floral/rose petal, dark cherry, roasted chestnut and subtle spicy flavours."

Michael Cooper "Highly fragrant it is mouthfilling, with deep, ripe cherry, plum and spice flavours, seasoned with nutty oak. Complex and very savoury, it is a youthful, harmonious, supple red, well worth cellaring.."

Decanter World Wine Awards "A wealth of pressed flowers and remarkably pure dark berries and plums, displaying all the hallmarks of the genre. Soft and creamy with an inspiring finish."

Bob Campbell, The Real Review "Attractive, fruit-focused pinot noir with floral, violet, dark cherry, berry and spicy oak flavours. A deliciously accessible wine, with a supple core of juicy fruit flavours balanced by fine, sweet tannins. Very appealing" (2020 vintage)

James Suckling "The top-tier pinot from this producer, this has a complex nose with spiced red and dark cherries and plums, as well as espresso and pepper. The palate has a bold, fleshy core with ripe dark-cherry and plum flavors framed in silky, smooth-honed tannins. Fresh finish."

Decanter World Wine Awards "Luscious, ripe, fruit and enticing bouquet of dark cherry, baked raspberry, thyme, nutmeg and vanilla. Juicy and mouthwatering, ripe and polished tannins, showing a youthful charm." (2020 vintage)

Nanny Goat Pinot Noir comes from the Bannockburn sub-region of Central Otago. As with most vineyards, there is usually a small parcel or two of outstanding quality fruit that outshines the rest.

The Super Nanny is a limited release wine, made from carefully hand-sorted Pinot Noir bunches, wild yeast ferment with a portion of the whole bunch, extended skin contact and 15 months in French Oak. (40% New Oak) The result is a powerful, richly flavoured and textured Central Otago Pinot, which won a Gold Medal from the NZ International Wine Show in 2014 (2013 vintage).

Since the release of its inaugural Pinot Noir in 2005, the Nanny Goat Vineyard has produced wines of elegance, concentration and balance.

Acclaimed winemaker Alan Oswald previously spent 5 years at Cloudy Bay, including two years as Assistant Winemaker. He is a specialist premium Pinot Noir winemaker.

The Central Otago wine region is the world's southern-most commercial wine-growing region, and famous for its Pinot Noir. It differs from all other New Zealand wine areas in that it is inland, in the foothills of the Southern Alps. The level of sunlight is very high, something that accounts for the high levels of alcohol that are often found in Central Otago wines.

Bob Campbell, The Real Review "Fragrant, floral aroma with the scent of red rose leads to a more fruit-forward palate with dark cherry/berry characters with subtle fresh herb flavours. A backbone of fine, ripe tannins gives energy and suggests cellaring potential."

Cameron Douglas MS "An enticing mineral laden bouquet with scents of chalky clay soils then a core of light red fruits and barrel spices then a soft smoky soil quality. Undeniably complex with a pinosity and charm. Equally enticing on the palate with texture then flavour, an abundance of fine tannins from needle point to moderate then acidity and fruit flavours delivering a a core of red fruits, medium+ acidity and length developing complex finish."

James Suckling "Currants, black raspberries, ash and peppercorns on the nose. Savory and subtly peppery with a medium body and fine tannins. Tight finish. From organically grown grapes."

Michele's Note "A deep dive into glorious pinot aromas - meaty, plummy, Christmas-cake-spicy! Clean, lithe and very silky on the palate. Nice touch of strap liquorice on the finish with food-friendly astringency."

Huon Hooke, The Real Review "Very deep, bright, youthful purple/red colour, with aromas of black fruits, mixed spices and dried herbs, and a lacing of fragrant oak adding an extra detail. The wine is medium-bodied and firmly structured with abundant, quite firm tannins. It's a bolder, more solid style of pinot that is typical of the region. A rather obvious pinot with an almost overripe fruit note. It has potential for cellaring but already drinks well. " (2020 vintage)

James Suckling "Red and dark cherries, as well as red plums and a spicy oak overlay, as well as some violets and herbs. Gently reductive. There’s a fresh and juicy feel on the palate with silky tannin and fresh cherry fruit."(2020 vintage)

New Zealand Wine Rater "Intense, primary, and potent nose with funky, bitu men sulphides and chary bacon-fat, coffee-grind, barrel characters dominating at first then boysenberry, and liquorice notes emerging with air time. Tight, un-evolved and primary at the moment with a fleshy mid palate, firm acid, spice, and ample, sappy tannins dominating the finish right now. A 'full noise' wine that's begging for more time in the bottle." (2020 vintage)

Highly awarded and acclaimed, wine-maker Alan Peters-Oswald is a specialist premium pinot noir maker. The Central Otago wine region is the world's southern-most commercial wine-growing region, and famous for its Pinot Noir. Nestled within a timeless and sensual landscape, Nanny Goat Estate Vineyard sits between 270m and 290m above sea level spread across two ancient, North East facing terraces. This is a region of climatic extremes with typically very hot summers, short autumns and bitterly cold winter days. Challenging conditions for producing world-class cool climate Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.

Successive periods of glaciation and recession, followed by erosion by Mata Au / Clutha River have shaped the Nanny Goat Estate landscape by creating distinct terraces of alluvial soils that are pastiche of loess, gravel, schist and mineral quartz. Generations of farming and the associated cultivation of lucerne and other feed crops have added organic matter to the wind blowen loessial topsoil providing us with a nice balance between vine vigor and free draining attributes.

The Queensberry range is 100% sourced from our home vineyard in Queensberry. BioGro Certified organic, this single vineyard range sees the benefits of the adoption of organic and regenerative viticultural practices, both environmentally and qualitatively. The effect of healthy soils and resilient vines is evident in the quality of fruit and characteristics of this wine.

One small component contained 100% whole bunches and underwent a period of carbonic maceration prior to being foot stomped - the final blend contains 15% Whole Bunch. Individual fermenters underwent a short pre fermentation maceration before fermenting naturally and being left on skins for up to 32 days before pressing.

After a brief period of settling the wine was racked to 225L French oak barriques (30% new) where it underwent natural MLF and matured for 10 months before being prepared for bottling on the 25th of March 2022.

Alcohol: 14%

Pinot Noir is the dominant red wine grape of Burgundy, now produced in wine regions all over the world, including western Germany, northern Italy, Chile, South Africa, Australia and, perhaps most notably, California, Oregon and New Zealand.

The essence of Pinot Noir wine is its aroma of strawberry and cherry (fresh red cherries in lighter wines and stewed black cherries in weightier examples), underpinned in the most complex examples by hints of forest floor. Well-built Pinot Noirs, particularly from warmer harvests, also exhibit notes of leather and violets, sometimes approaching the flavor spectrum of Syrah.

Organic

Cameron Douglas MS, The Shout "A precise, fresh and enticing bouquet with aromas of fresh red berries and cherry flesh, a fine savoury layer with a whisper of dried herb and thyme then layers of barrel spices. Complex and youthful. On the palate vibrant and youthful with a velvet textured mouthfeel, fine through moderate tannins and medium+ acid line. The core fruit flavours, nut and dried herb qualities are consistent and persistent. Overall, a delicious wine with best drinking from early 2023 through 2029."

Mike Bennie, The Wine Front "Alan Peters-Oswald is a delightful fella and astute winemaker doing good things to elevate the Nanny Goat wines. Here’s a new release. Slight label tweaks too. Supple, succulent, very bright and fresh feeling. Leads with tart cherry fruit characters, a good deal of crunchy, drying cranberry tang and pucker, some dried herbs, a light dusting of pepper. Refreshing feel to taste, vivacious, lively and rips along with sinewy tannin and heaps of tangy acidity. Strap in! Good with a light chill, better in a few years when things settle down. "

Michele's Notes "Deep colour. Alluring perfume of rich dark cherry fruit, plum and brioche. There’s chocolate and slate too. Smooth in the mouth with a lovely flow across the palate. The balance between fruit, oak, tannin and acid is excellent. Very tasty indeed. "

Winemaker "Immediately appealing on the nose with lifted wild berry and floral aromatics, gradually fading to reveal a complex array of ripe cherry & plum fruits, sweet spices, cola, garrigue, and fennel. Sweet red, black and blue berry fruits abound on the palate, with fleeting nuances of red currant, cola, cinnamon, thyme, crushed coriander seed and star anise adding layers of intrigue. Seamlessly integrated oak and powder fine tannins combine with a fine bead of acidity to give a fresh, pleasingly
long finish.

Steve Leszczysnki, Q Wine Reviews "This is such an approachable and ever-reliable Pinot Noir. A gravelly profile shines through. Dark plums, blackcurrants and dark cherries are flanked by dried herbs, cloves and shavings of dark chocolate. Like a Number 8 in rugby, this has the punch to do some heavy lifting but is nimble enough to show soft hands and quick feet like the backs. Tense tannins seize up on close before a long, fine spice finish. Delightful. Drink for five years+." (2020 Vintage)

New Zealand Wine Rater "An intense, perfumed, and floral bouquet in a lifte d, primary New World fruit style with bursts of berry conserve, bramble, a herbal lift, star anise, seaweed notes and fennel. A vibrant, juicy, red fruit core runs the length of the supple, charming palate with chalky tannins. Youthful and will benefit from a year in the bottle but very commercially appealing."

Michael Cooper "Already very approachable, the 2020 vintage (4.5*) was grown at six sites around the region, with almost two-thirds of the grapes coming from Pisa/Lowburn, in the Cromwell Basin. Matured in French oak barriques, it is bright ruby, mouthfilling and vibrantly fruity, with generous, ripe cherry, plum and spice flavours, ,showing good complexity, fresh acidity and finely balanced tannins. Best drinking 2023+." (2020 vintage)

QWine "This is such an approachable and ever-reliable Pinot Noir. Readily available too, making this a go-to is not a silly idea - particularly when it is often priced around the $30 mark. Delightful." (2020 vintage)

James Suckling "Aromas of strawberry, pomegranate and sappy, herbal accents. This has an elegant and soft red-cherry and plum-flavored palate that delivers in tangy, juicy style. Drink now. Screw cap." (2020 vintage)

Bob Campbell "Moderately intense, vibrant pinot noir with cherry, berry, fresh herb and spicy oak flavours. A distinctive wine that seems to express a strong sense of place. Nice purity and a backbone of peppery tannins that helps to promote a crisp, dry finish." (2020 vintage)

Bob Campbell, The Real Review " Appealing silken-textured pinot noir with dark cherry, violet, fresh herbs and spicy flavours. A supple, sinewy, fine-boned wine with high energy. Accessible now, thanks to a core of fruit sweetness, but has the potential to develop well with bottle age." (2019 vintage)

Gary Walsh, The Wine Front - "Juicy cherry, jumps out of the glass, rose petal, some spice. Cherry, fresh, acidity a bit nippy and lemony, but the core of fruit is good. Light tannin plays on the finish. Attractive. Quite stylish.” (2017 vintage)

Decanter "There are just 900 bottles and you should get yourself a bottle or six if you can, as this is sex in a bottle - it's gorgeously textured, silken, and ethereal. There's a transparency to the fruit, showing cardamom, ginger, and cranberry flavours. It makes you swoon! Drinking Window 2019 - 2030" (2017 vintage)

The Real Review Recommended
"Organic Winery of the Year" - NZ Organic Wine Awards

Cameron Douglas MS "Distinctive, varietal, earthy and mineral with a line of new French oak spice and barrel toast. Aromas and flavours include a classic Otago savouriness with bracken and crumbled stone outlined by dark cherry and fresh raspberry flesh, plum and then baking spices of vanilla and clove. Tannins add structure and plenty of mouthfeel as does the acidity. A wine still very youthful and developing slowly, but also complex and lengthy."

QWine "Organically farmed, there is plenty of depth but it's not weighty. Slick and silky, dark plums and dark cherries and flanked by pan juices, dancy delicate spices and some mushroom compost. An earthiness cruises through the mid-palate adding another level of interest before grippy, drying cocoa tannins ride out to a sustained finish. I'll have a glass thanks. No, make it two. Smart gear."

Michael Cooper "Concentrated richness and mushroom-like earthiness – juicy and succulent in the palate with cherry sweetness, a sultry savouriness, a touch of chocolate and fruit cake spices – very attractive and generous.

Bob Campbell MW "Luscious, concentrated pinot noir with a mix of floral, plum, dark cherry, cassis and spicy flavours. Dense, silken-textured wine with an unmistakable Central Otago signature. A heady wine that is delicious now but no rush." (2019 vintage)

Cameron Douglas MS "Tense, ripe, varietal and loaded with primary fruit and mineral energy. Bright red and dark cherry, raspberry and redcurrant. Baking spices of oak with a vanilla and cedar suggestion, a whisper of bacon then a quiet wood smoke moment. Quite powerful and youthful on the palate with fruit flavours that reflect the nose, an abundance of tannins and acidity add texture and energy. Lengthy finish with a primary, fruit centric power and contrasting wood and acid structure. Plenty of minerality this wine needs more cellar to really showcase its personality and pinosity." (2019 vintage)

James Suckling "Rich spiced-cherry and fresh red-plum nose with raspberries, violets and smoked-meat elements. The palate has vibrant plum flavor and a smooth sheen of fine, velvety tannin. Fresh and balanced." (2019 vintage)

Bob Campbell MW "Bright, youthful pinot noir with red rose, floral, dark cherry, anise, dried herb, thyme and spicy oak flavours supported by peppery tannins. An elegant wine with obvious cellaring potential" (2018 vintage)

Cam Douglas "Ruby and purple core with a purple rim, bright and shiny appearance. Very youthful bouquet with primary fruit aromas of plums and cherries, moderate intensity scents of oak, fleshy, young, savoury, pretty and inviting. On the palate - Dry, fresh, savoury and textured with a mix of fine to firm tannins, plenty of acidity and a core of fruit. All the raw energy of this wine is on show and needs time to settle in more and begin to harmonise - this is best completed in a cool dark cellar. This wine is also fresh, lively, packed with pinosity and charm and will reward those who decant for service or better still age a little longer with best drinking from later in 2021 through 2026." (2018 vintage)

Decanter Magazine "Highly Commended .......draws you back to the glass again and again. A fine texture and freshness" (2016 vintage)

Bob Campbell MW "A well-proportioned pinot noir.........firmly structured pinot noir with plum, dark cherry and a savoury, earthy, stemmy influence. " (2016 vintage)

Stephen Tanzer "This highly aromatic Pinot Noir finishes with sophisticated tannins and lovely length and grip......From very old gravelly glacial deposits, with little topsoil; vinified with wild yeasts and 10% whole clusters: Fresh medium red. Sappy aromas of wild raspberry, cherry, pepper and menthol. Juicy, dry and youthfully closed, with its intense red fruit flavors energized and supported by a firm mineral unpinning." (2016 vintage)

Wine Spectator "Lush and plush, with raspberry coulis, black cherry compote and red licorice flavors that are robust and juicy. Fresh earth, clove and sage notes linger on the finish. Drink now through 2026." (2016 vintage)

Lisa Perrotti-Brown MW, Wine Advocate "Medium-bodied, it delivers a lot of red and blackberry character supported by soft tannins and plenty of freshness, finishing earthy.....Medium ruby-purple colored, the 2014 Pinot Noir gives a nose of black cherries, red currants and red plums with hints of underbrush and violets." (2014 vintage)

Organic

Bob Campbell MW "Supple, vibrant, organic pinot noir with cherry, violet, blackcurrant leaf, spice, anise, and subtle nutty oak flavours. High-energy wine with impressive purity. An elegant and youthful pinot noir with obvious cellaring potential."

James Suckling "Attractive, earthy and spicy aromas are wound seamlessly into bright, red and darker cherries. This is complex and fragrant with dialed-in oak. The palate has impressively intense red-cherry flavors with succulent acidity and smooth, fluid tannins. Composed finish."

Vinous "An understated Pinot Noir that is self-assured on the midpalate. It has a lovely sense of sinew, providing a chalky tension through the midweight core, which is emphasized further by the streak of cool-climate acidity. This isn't fruit-forward; it's a more savory expression, with high violet notes providing the top line of the score and subtle herb and cedar notes (30% new French oak) bringing up the base. Already starting to drink well, this has the structure to evolve from now to the mid-term. Drinking window: 2021 - 2028."

Angus Hughson "Of the new releases from Dog Point this wine was the pick. But if you plan on drinking it young give it some air, either in the glass or a decanter to enjoy all it has to offer. Bright mid cherry red in colour, it opens up with aromas of the forrest – spice, earth, truffle and undergrowth providing a savoury start. But then pretty aromatic fruits start to emerge – beetroot, dark cherry, star anise and potpourri all underpinned by well chosen oak. It is beautifully complex and, most of all, superbly balanced. The palate continues on that earthy, brooding line with tobacco, stalk and spice offset by fleshy dark cherry fruits. It is almost surprisingly tannic with strong structure and also a meaty/funky edge on a long and supple finish. Delicious and great value Kiwi Pinot."

Tom Cannavan "Made with wild yeasts again, with 18 months in French oak barrels, 35% new and another nicely pale Pinot. So much sweet truffle, coffee and forest floor here, but a depth of ripe fruit too as another layer. That richness, that suggestion of mocha, is there on the palate, but the keen raspberry edge of the fruit and acidity sharpens everything up. This has great fruit but an unwavering clarity too, and lots of savoury orange and grapefruit in the mix for a formidable example of Marlborough Pinot at, or near, it's best."

Jancis Robinson "Paler and less blue than the exceptional Dog Point 2017 Pinot Noir. Transparent garnet. Sweet, violet-scented fruit. Very gentle, delicate and nuanced but not quite as compelling as the 2017. It's savoury and dry – there's no distracting sweetness, no beetroot quality, no obvious oakiness. Very light vegetal note but it's fully ripe fruit. So neat! You could certainly enjoy it now but I suspect it might be even better next year. Amazing that one producer can be so good at both Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir, and pretty smart Chardonnay too."

Bob Campbell "Deliciously fruit pinot noir with plum, dark cherry, anise, spice and nutty oak flavours among the more obvious descriptors. A dense wine with underlying power and obvious potential but dangerously drinkable now. This must be one of Marlborough's most consistently top reds. And it's organic" (2017 Vintage)

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate "The medium-bodied 2017 Pinot Noir is taut and tight, with subtle notions of green rose hips entwined with white strawberries and tart raspberries. Endowed with silky tannins and ample concentration, it should improve over the next couple of years and drink well for up to a decade." (2017 Vintage)

James Sucking "This is very convincing, complex and downright impressive pinot noir. The intense aromas of ripe-cherries and plums are framed in such intensely attractive oak spice and earthy, sous-bois complexity. The palate has regal, polished and powerful tannin and carries a vibrant core of very attractive, rich dark cherries." (2017 Vintage)

James Suckling “Impressive structure and concentration. Terrific complexity in the mix here, too. Blueberries and mixed cherries on the nose and palate with a terrific layering of plush, assertive tannins and a fresh, vibrant kick into the finish.” (2016 Vintage)

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate "Medium to full-bodied, with a rich, velvety mid-palate, it finishes dry and firm...Subtle cinnamon and clove notes appear on the nose, along with black cherries and cola shadings." (2016 Vintage)

Oz Wine Review 2019 “Part of the secret to this label’s success is the Dog Point Vineyard itself, which is one of the oldest privately owned vineyards in Marlborough. Planted by Ivan and Margaret Sutherland back in the late 1970s, it remains not only the backbone of the Dog Point label but also a key source of fruit for a whole swathe of premium Marlborough producers.”

James Suckling “Impressive structure and concentration. Terrific complexity in the mix here, too. Blueberries and mixed cherries on the nose and palate with a terrific layering of plush, assertive tannins and a fresh, vibrant kick into the finish.”

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate "Medium to full-bodied, with a rich, velvety mid-palate, it finishes dry and firm...Subtle cinnamon and clove notes appear on the nose, along with black cherries and cola shadings."

It was an exciting day for wine lovers when Cloudy Bay's former viticulturalist and winemaker Ivan Sutherland and James Healy decided to go out on their own. Dog Point vineyards were some of the earliest to be planted in Marlborough and thus have some of the oldest vines in the region. Dog Point is named for the sheep-herding history of the area.

Organic philosophies drive Dog Point's approach to wine growing and in March 2012, 150 hectares of Vineyards were certified organic by BioGro New Zealand, with another 60 hectares certified as C1 (2 years in conversion). A flock of around 2,000 sheep including Romney, Perendale Cross and Merino Wiltshire Cross are grazed in the winter to keep the grass low and fertilise as they go.

Marlborough is New Zealand's most important wine region by far. Situated at the northeastern tip of the South Island, this dry, sunny region is home to over 500 growers and produces around three-quarters of all New Zealand wine.

In recent years, the region's earliest Pinot Noir vines have come of age, and are now producing some first-class wines. Marlborough Pinot Noirs are generally lighter and fruitier than those from Otago and Martinborough.

Pinot Noir is the dominant red wine grape of Burgundy, now adopted in wine regions all over the world including western Germany, northern Italy, Chile, South Africa, Australia and, perhaps most notably, California, Oregon and New Zealand.

Bob Campbell, The Real Review "Elegant, seamless pinot noir with fragrant, floral, red rose, dark cherry, anise, spice and restrained savoury and fresh herb characters. It's a complex medley of appealing flavours supported by an ethereal texture and a lingering finish. A surprisingly accessible wine from an excellent vintage."

James Suckling "A complex wine from the outset with gently reductive notes and modern oak spice threading into fresh cherry, spiced bread, rose, forest wood and blood orange, as well as darker cherry notes. The palate tells the full story. This displays real power and definition with clear-cut and powerful tannins. The intensity of the red-cherry fruit is impressive and the way it occupies the finish with length and uplift is the thing that defines great pinot noir per se. Strong vintage."

Falstaff "Really aromatic cranberry and redcurrant fruit with that gorgeous edge of white pepper. With air, the fruit almost gets a candied, heightened quality. On the palate, the fruit performs a veritable tight walk, between candied ripeness and utter freshness."

James Suckling "Aromas of red cherries, cedar, dry brown spices, forest berries and wood, as well as rose-like perfume. It opens and aromatically enriches with some air. The palate has all the trademark layering of smooth tannins and a smoothly ripe ball of fresh red cherries. Assertive drive to the finish." (2018 vintage)

Bob Campbell, The Real Review "Elegant, aromatic pinot noir with bright, high energy floral, violet, cherry, fresh herb, star anise and restrained spicy oak supported by fine tannins and juicy acidity. An attractively fragrant, supple wine that's a little lighter than usual but gives a nod in the direction of Burgundy and shows promising ageing potential." (2018 vintage)

Falstaff " subtle floral touch plays on the nose along with a sense of creamy red cherry fruit. With more air, that Martinborough savouriness comes through. There is a lovely grip, as if starched silk crunched tenderly. A seam of vivid freshness plays along that fine-boned tannic structure. It is that structure that allows that red fruit to shine, to radiate its aromatic freshness. There is such gorgeous, savoury length and such tenderness."

Huon Hooke, The Real Review "Medium to full red colour with a tint of purple and a smoky, earthy, almost graphite-like aroma, broodingly complex and promising to unfold more. The wine is medium to full-bodied yet backed up by abundant firm tannins, the finish imparts a trace of cleansing bitterness and the grip helps carry the finish long. It's still emerging from its shell and promises more to come if cellared a couple of years." (2018 vintage)

James Suckling "Really pristine fruit aromas here with such pure, ripe red cherries and roses, as well as gently earthy and spicy nuances. Very fresh, precisely ripe and a pinot you can sit and just breathe in for days. The palate has a velvety layer that few others manage to find; silky at the core, succulent in the center and delivering such vibrant, red-cherry flavors in a long, pristine and fresh, red-cherry finish." (2017 vintage)

Huon Hooke, The Real Review "Deep red/purple colour. The bouquet is at first reserved and shy with dominant dried herb, straw-bale and undergrowth aromas. Some cherry aromas began to emerge after extended airing. The wine emerged as full-bodied and strong, with abundant tannins. There is a core of sweet fruit within. It has only just begun building the fragrant bouquet that will almost certainly emerge in time. On day two: a glorious wine had blossomed, with a wonderful complexity of deep-set dark cherries, spices and dried herbs, adding up to a beguiling fragrance. The same flavours saturate the palate which is concentrated and profound, the tannins soft and ample, the persistence long. It all adds up to a prognosis of a long and rewarding life ahead." (2017 vintage)

Wine Enthusiast "From extremely low-yielding, organic vines, this flagship Pinot, which sees 30% whole bunch and a native yeast fermentation, is beautifully expressive. Complex, harmonious and elegant, it ripples with pristine, brambly fruit, dried flowers, spices, river stone minerality and a savory, meaty nuance. The palate is silky, with crystalline acidity and laced with fine, chalky tannins." (2017 vintage)

Falstaff "Rosehip, white pepper, lifted herbal, peppery savouriness on the nose. The palate literally reverberates with that intense, delicious pepperiness. It is alive with spice and shimmers with delicate redcurrant and cranberry fruit. This is delicate, poetic, vivid, elegant with such an elegant, fine-boned structures." (2017 vintage)

Bob Campbell, The Real Review "A Kiwi classic that lives up to it s lofty reputation despite a vintage that presented challenges. Supple, accessible wine with plum, dark berry, spice, anise, dried herb, savoury and spicy oak flavours. Complex with a fine, tannic backbone balanced against restrained fruit sweetness. Perhaps not quite as much power and density as usual but still offers good potential " (2017 vintage)

Robert Parket, Wine Advocate "Cool, slightly minty stem notes accent bright cherry fruit in the 2017 Pinot Noir, most of which was picked before the rains, according to winemaker Helen Masters. It's crisp and medium-bodied, with silky tannins and a long, refreshing finish. It may be even longer-lived than I've suggested." (2017 vintage)

Bob Campbell, The Real Review "Elegant, supple and very vibrant pinot noir, with seductively-layered floral, red rose, cherry, red fruits, dried herb and mixed spice flavours. Very long and linear wine that demonstrated real power delivered with great subtlety. A wonderfully pure pinot noir with a distinctive house/vineyard style and a proven ability to age graciously. " (2016 vintage)

Sam Kim, Wine Orbit "A symphonic offering, once again, exhibiting red/black cherry, mushroom, mixed spice and vanilla characters with nuances of black tea and floral on the nose. The palate is superbly structured and seductively expressed, offering lovely fruit purity together with sensual mouthfeel and savoury undertones. Perfectly proportioned and impeccably balanced, this is another super-star in the making." (2016 vintage)

James Suckling "This has all the cherry and spice and perfume that defines this consistently stunning pinot noir, as well as a sense of immense freshness. The palate has deceptive lightness and tannins that are supple and caressing and that kick fresh and expansive out through the finish. Succulent and elegant. A great vintage for this wine." (2016 vintage)

Gary Walsh, The Wine Front "Rosy, dark cherry, ripe and fleshy, a slip of vanilla oak. Medium-bodied, a smattering of orange peel and blood orange juice, silky tannin, gentle warmth, and a bold and sappy finish. Personality plus." (2016 vintage)

Falstaff "The nose is a mix of red berry and subtle raspberry leaf, it is all rather shy. The body is slender, translucent, vivid freshness and some plum skin tannins play off each other to give this some slight grip. There almost is a feeling of crushed gravel. The finish shines with red fruit and freshness." (2016 vintage)

Huon Hooke, The Real Review "Very dark colour for pinot: deep red/purple, the bouquet shy and somewhat reticent, but clean and ripe. It developed a simple chaffy aroma as it aired. The wine is medium-bodied and firm, with some extractiveness in the tannins leaving a slightly bitter grippy finish. It's a wine of weight and grunt, but not a lot of charm or pinosity - yet. It needs cellaring." (2016 vintage)

Robert Parket, Wine Advocate "...features hints of sage leaves and minty stemminess, beautifully balanced by plush fruit. It's medium to full-bodied, with silkier tannins than the muscular 2015, giving it a lush, welcoming texture and a smooth, seamless finish redolent of tea and roses." (2016 vintage)

Wine Enthusiast "Like many of this renowned producer's wines, this is a bottle to take your time with. It changes with every pour, from bright cranberry and raspberry fruit to licorice; from dried roses and violets to sandalwood and savory spice. The palate is medium bodied and silky textured, with tightly wound, leathery tannins and fruit that feels like you could take a bite out of it. Through it all is Ata Rangi's signature mineral streak. For all its appeal, however, this wine is still a baby, elegant and complex but austere. (2016 vintage)

Ata Rangi no longer enters wine competitions, but the accolades continue. In 2010 Ata Rangi and Felton Road were both awarded the inaugural Tipuranga Teitei o Aotearoa or ‘Grand Cru of New Zealand’ by their peers. That’s a serious pat on the back.

Ata Rangi is a small, family-owned Martinborough winery with a big reputation, particularly for pinot noir. Their grape supply is from nearly 50 hectares of organically grown grapes from 14 small, close proximity vineyards on 30cm of shallow silt-loam on top of 25-metre deep alluvial gravels."

Ata Rangi, meaning "dawn sky" or "new beginning" is a small New Zealand winery with a big reputation for serious Pinot Noir. Located at the southern end of the North Island, it is owned and managed by a family trio - Clive Paton, his wife Phyll and his sister Alison.

Clive planted his first vines on a small, stony sheep paddock at the edge of the Martinborough village in 1980 as one of a handful of people who pioneered winegrowing in the area.

Crimson is a wine which was inspired by a love of New Zealand’s native ‘Christmas Trees’ the rata and pohutukawa trees. Sales of this wine support Project Crimson, a charitable conservation trust which plants and protects these trees. The Pinot Noir grapes for Crimson are produced from 10-20 year old Martinborough vines in Lismore, Waiora and Walnut Ridge blocks. The grapes were hand picked and 100% destemmed, keeping as much whole berry fruit as possible.

After four years of transition, Ata Rangi were certified in 2014 as fully organic.

Well-built Pinot Noirs, particularly from warmer harvests, also exhibit notes of leather and violets, sometimes approaching the flavor spectrum of Syrah.

Amisfield was established in 1988 and has built up a reputation for quality wines, especially Pinot Noir. Their state-of-the-art purpose built winery is the focal point of the vineyard, and gathered global attention when visited by Will and Kate on their Royal tour of New Zealand.

Established in Central Otago, Amisfield produces beautiful pinot noir and aromatic white wines sourced from fruit grown on its Estate vineyard beneath the Pisa mountain range in the Cromwell Basin. Over 80ha is currently planted, and the majority of the vines are over ten years old. Amisfield philosophy is simple: minimal intervention in the winemaking process and ultimate fruit purity.
Amisfield is currently in conversion to full organic certification with New Zealand’s leading body, BioGro.

The Real Review "Dog Point Vineyard, one of Marlborough’s brightest stars."

Bob Campbell "A small family owned, boutique winery located in Marlborough, New Zealand – New Zealand’s premium wine growing region. Dog Point Vineyards produce wines that respect the natural integrity of the land from which they are made and, reflect the experience and passion of the people that make them."

The Real Review "Dog Point Vineyard, one of Marlborough’s brightest stars."

Organic wines are made from grapes grown without pesticides, following strict organic standards. Organic wines are produced in vineyards that do not use synthetic chemicals.Certified organic wines have been certified by Biogro New Zealand.

Organic wines are made from grapes grown without pesticides, following strict organic standards. Organic wines are produced in vineyards that do not use synthetic chemicals. Certified BioGro organic wines in New Zealand.
