The Winemaker "The 2020 Seifried Nelson Sauvignon Blanc comes from another cracker Nelson vintage. There are layers of tropical fruit on the nose with passionfruit, melon and fresh basil notes. The palate is well balanced showing generous fruit weight and lingering flavours, supported by clean acidity leaving a long finish."

Sam Kim "It’s fabulously fruited and intensely aromatic on the nose showing Granny Smith apple, feijoa, ripe nectarine and lemon zest characters. The palate offers terrific fruit concentration and persistency, wonderfully supported by excellent fruit purity and vibrant acidity, leading to an impressively long delicious finish. "

Cameron Douglas "Pungent bouquet with a lightning strike of power and energy. Aromas and flavours of passion-fruit, mango, Meyer lemon, cape gooseberry and a fresh herb grassy-like appeal. The palate runs on both the core of fruit and high acidity. Flavours are consistent and persistent. This is an example of why NZ SB is liked by so many wine drinkers – it’s fresh and crunchy, loaded with flavour and just keeps delivering on flavour and style."

Judges comments, New Zealand Wine of the Year 2019 - "A beautiful amalgam of crisp, crunchy herbaceous freshness along with guava and other tropical fruits. All this held together with fresh, vibrant acidity and great length.” (2019 Vintage)

London Wine Competition "Seifried is the premium label of Seifried Estate. The fruit for these wines are grown on established vines, usually in excess of eight years of age. The Seifried wines are often blends of fruit grown on several of the Estate vineyards, enabling the production of wines with fantastic depth and complexity." (2019 Vintage)

Winemaker "Concentrated and flavoursome. The palate is generous with lasting tropical citrus flavours wrapped around crisp minerally acidity. Aromatic and fresh Sauvignon Blanc flavours were encouraged prior to vintage through careful canopy management. The fruit was de-stemmed and pressed immediately after harvest and a cool fermentation was initiated in stainless steel tanks to retain the clean aromatic fruit characters. This is a blend of fruit from our Rabbit Island and Brightwater Vineyards. Our Rabbit Island Vineyard is situated on a wide river flat. The soil is gravelly sandy loam, which is very sandy and free draining. These vineyards are about 1.5 kilometres from the sea, which helps moderate temperatures. Our Brightwater Vineyard is exceptionally stony with free-draining soils, which is very hard on the farm equipment. The large stones however are vital for holding the warmth of the Nelson sun and for ripening the grapes. Lively fruit characters are evident in fruit harvested from this block. (2019 Vintage)

Wine Spectator "... Seifried is a winery located in the lesser-known Nelson appellation on the northern tip of the South Island, just west of Marlborough. The region has the highest sunshine hours in all of New Zealand. Further inland, mountain ranges to the east, south and west provide shelter for the valleys and benchlands, while the northern areas benefit from a more maritime climate. The summers are warm and relatively dry and the nights cool. Seifried pulls from two vineyard sources to make this complex and juicy white. One is just 10 miles from the coast, adding liveliness to the wine, while the other is sheltered from the coast, with stony soils yielding riper fruit."

The Real Review "The Seifried family now farm over 200 hectares across eight sustainably accredited vineyards in the Nelson region. Wines are exported to 21 countries around the globe and all three Seifried “children” are fully involved in the family business. The Seifried family really are, pioneering family winegrowers."

Decanter "Born in Austria, Hermann Seifried studied winemaking in his homeland and in Germany before moving to South Africa to gain hands-on experience with KWV. His next (and so far final) step on his journey was to New Zealand, where he arrived without a word of English in his vocabulary.
Here he met (Sweet) Agnes, [which some of his wines are named] whom he married in 1971. They held a joint ambition to plant their own vineyard in Nelson at the very north of New Zealand’s South Island, where they spotted the immense potential. Despite the naysayers who claimed that Nelson was too far south and too cold an environment in which to fully ripen grapes, they pressed ahead, and 1973 marked the planting of the first vines, with the first vintage released three years later."

London Wine Show "Seifried Estate is a company devoted to sustainable winegrowing and producing the very best Nelson [New Zealand] has to offer."

Seifried Estate was created by New Zealand winemaking pioneers, Austrian-born Hermann Seifried and his New Zealander wife Agnes. They planted their first grapes in the Moutere Valley near Nelson and made their first wine in 1976. Seifried is a founding member of 'Sustainable Winegrowing New Zealand' and was an early adopter of the programme when both the winery and vineyard auditing programmes were first established in the New Zealand wine industry in the mid-1990s. The programme aims to deliver a framework for viticultural and winemaking practices that protect the environment while efficiently and economically producing premium wine grapes and wine.

Nelson is a small, little-known wine region at the northern end of New Zealand's South Island. Surrounded on three sides by mountains, it enjoys a unique microclimate that is perfect for aromatic grape varieties. Wines made from Riesling, Pinot Gris and Gewurztraminer are considered to be some of the best in New Zealand.

Sauvignon Blanc is currently the bestselling white wine in Singapore. It pairs well with white meats including Chicken, Pork, and Turkey. It also complements Fish. Sauvignon Blanc is a white-wine grape from western France, now successfully grown in emerging and established wine regions all over the world. While the grape may be more readily associated with the Loire Valley (for its pivotal role in Sancerre and Pouilly-Fumé), it is more likely to have originated from Bordeaux, where it is typically blended with Semillon.

In the late 20th Century, a new region began to gain a reputation as one of the great Sauvignon Blanc regions of the world: Marlborough, at the northern tip of New Zealand's South Island. The rapid development of the Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc is one of the most dramatic events in the world of wine.

Outside France and New Zealand, the variety has been relatively successful in New World regions such as California, Chile (particularly the Casablanca and San Antonio valleys) and South Africa. Even in Australia, the variety can thrive in the cooler coastal areas of the south. In Europe, the cool, sunny sub-alpine slopes of Alto Adige and Friuli in northern Italy produce high-quality Sauvignon Blanc, which is used in blends with native varieties like Friulano or on its own.
