5 Star - James Halliday

Jeni Port, Halliday Wine Companion "An early grigio adopter, Tar & Roses promotes the grape's natural blush colour. No filtration here. Fragrant in stone fruit, red apple and citrus scents with a flash of spiced pear. Subtle but highly effective. Hits the mark on the palate both flavour and texture-wise, with a super clean, brisk finish of bright acidity." (2022 vintage)

Jeni Port, Halliday Wine Companion "Palest pink blush. Perfumed with honeysuckle, apple and citrus. Fine acidity holds everything tight and focused finishing with a delicious – and delightful – saline cleansing intensity." (2021 vintage)

Aaron Brasher, The Real Review "Onion skin pink in the glass. Aromas of pear drop, raspberry, strawberry, dried herbs and rose petal. Bright, fresh and crunchy on the palate, red fruits, apple, rose water and vanilla pod. Lively acidity and a touch of phenolics give drive and purpose." (2021 vintage)

Jeni Port, Halliday Wine Companion "Machine-harvested fruit, crushed and pressed to tank, the pressings and free-run juice fermented separately before being blended back. No oak. One of the early adopters of allowing the grape's natural pink skin colour to show on the finished wine, it remains a signature. A bright, youthful expression of baked spiced apple, pear, honeysuckle with added gravitas from middle-palate texture that aids length and fruit intensity. " (2020 vintage)

The original Tar & Roses team of famed Don Lewis and Narelle King began their winemaking journey in Priorat, Spain, immersing themselves within the classic Mediterranean wine regions and varietals. This sparked an interest in how these varietals could be grown and made back home in their native regions of Central Victoria, Australia. Don, now passed was one of Australia's legendary winemakers earning the highest honour of winemaking in Australia, the prestigious Jimmy Watson award.

James Halliday "Tar & Roses produces wines inspired by the classic Mediterranean varietals and was named after the signature characteristics of Nebbiolo. The name also ties back to the winemaking team behind the venture, the legendary Don Lewis and his winemaking partner Narelle King. Narelle is carrying on the Tar & Roses tradition after Don's passing in 2017"

100% Pinot Grigio
Alcohol: 13.8%

Tar & Roses style of wines reflects the multi-region of Spain, Italy and Australia, as well as traditional winemaking alongside the new. All Tar & Roses wines are made using fruit grown in Heathcote, Strathbogie Ranges, Alpine Valley, King Valley and Priorat, Spain.

Mornington Peninsula is one of Victoria's most important wine regions, located an hour's drive south of Melbourne on the southern coast of Australia. It is one of Australia's coolest winegrowing regions and elegant Chardonnay and Pinot Noir wines are the main output, a far cry from the full-bodied Shiraz wines the country is famous for.

Pinot Grigio is more than just the Italian name for Pinot Gris. Although the two names refer to a single grape variety, the wine styles they represent are clearly distinct from one another.
