88/100 The Whisky Wash

The Dalmore distillery was founded in 1839 by Alexander Matheson on the banks of the Cromarty Firth in Alness, north of Inverness, but its heritage dates back some six centuries earlier, when Colin of Kintail, Chief of the Clan Mackenzie, saved King Alexander III from a charging stag in 1263.

The distillery prides itself on an unbroken chain of influential visionary craftsmen, setting standards over its 175 year history that many whisky makers follow today. The personal curation of casks, combined with expertise passed through generations of distillers, and the obsession of all those involved in production, results in a world-renowned luxury single malt.

Nose: A chocolate orange. Potpourri, perfumed. Fruitcake, Sherry.

Palate: Medium, lovely delivery. Zesty orange, Curaçao, chocolate. Winter spice, stem ginger in syrup. Hints of anise and a little hickory.

Finish: Malty barley and smoky espresso.

Founded by Alexander Matheson, The Dalmore Distillery prides itself on an unbroken chain of brilliant, visionary and influential craftsmen. Located north of Inverness, the capital of the Scottish Highlands, The Dalmore Distillery is located on a stunning stretch of Scottish coastline.
